Record Store Day 2023

My local said they have one copy of the Macho Man and they have decided to do a silent auction for it for charity. That was on my short list of must haves but I have a feeling I’ll be striking out on it tomorrow. It’s a silly novelty thing that I will never listen to it but I wanted it for the shelf.

I own zero Chet Baker - is his RSD release Chet a good place to start?
It's a great album. Bill Evans is on piano throughout. The new RSD version is mono. Keep that in mind if you have a preference in that regard. I have the stereo pressing, it sounds excellent minus a few clicks here and there.

It's also instrumental. No Chet vocals (which I prefer)

😂 It is so weird to me that when I was growing up, Vince McMahon was a ringside announcer meanwhile he owned the company the whole time.
Right. I hated Vince as an announcer too. I much preferred Gorilla Monsoon with Bobby “The Brain” Heenan and Later Jerry “The King” Lawler and Jim Ross. Vince was a great heel though.

Have you seen his creepy mustache/dye job he is now rocking?

Yes he was. The Body Jesse Ventura was announcer for a while too. Golden era of wrestling although the attitude era was pretty awesome as well. WCW Nitro when the NWO was like 30 members deep was pretty great too.

Thanks. I actually picked up Chet Baker Sings when the tone poet dropped and immediately sold it as I didn't dig the vocals.

I did a deep dive on WWF PPV via The Peacock app during the early days of the Pandemic, watched every PPV from Wrestlemania III through Wrestlemania 2000. I recently decided to revisit WCW Nitro Era, I started off with Bash at The Beach 96 where Hogan turns heal. Fun stuff watching Sting’s transformation.

Okay folks. The only thing I want is Tricky Pre Millennium Tension. If ANYONE sees one. Please @ me and I'll confirm and take it. I have no idea if these are even on this side of the pond. But I'll pay to ship from anywhere.

We got Tricky in Canada but they didn't in the U.S.

My local has it on their in-stock list - but I'm not going early because I'm solo with the kiddos all day and there's just no way. I may try and swing by with them later to see what remains after the initial flock makes their way through.

My local got 52 Swifts and ZERO 1975 or U2
(They also got 0 Amythyst Kiah and Sun Ra, but that's not surprising)

Yeah, I ordered Cornell 77; it should be here next week, and I was gonna say that was good enough but then I listened to the Boston show and decided I wanted that “Peggy-o” and “Terrapin Station” that slowed down “Friend of The Devil” is tight too.
I think it's easier for me to say no to this one precisely BECAUSE I missed out on Cornell 77, haha. I don't have the Buffalo set from a few years ago, either - so I'd be starting, rather than completing a collection of these.

Yeah, I don’t have Buffalo either. Hoping it gets a repress here at some point soon but your right, now that I will have the two I feel like I am gonna have to complete the trifecta.

Going to get to my store around 5am. Just hoping everyone there already now is there for T-swift, macho man, and 1975.

Planning to get both Archie Shepp, black keys, Billy Joel, Sigur Ros, howlin wolf, Muddy Waters, and maybe the dead set. I think that's it

What happens if 20 people get it for you?
Well.... we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Honestly I'm going to be near my phone all afternoon. If anyone spots one just @ me. I bet I'll be able to respond almost immediately if anyone actually sees one. I have no idea how many of these they pressed. It could be everywhere I suppose, but I feel like that's unlikely.

You know, even though their heart is likely in the right place I wonder if they are allowed to do this within RSD parameters. I mean it's great on the surface but I could see more and more low copy units being auctioned off "for charity" or then "for the customers" or then just auctioning them for profit. RSD isn't equipped to track down and enforce proceeds going to real charities, and the purpose of RSD records is to sell them to people making effort to go to record stores, even if it's one copy.
