Here's a new release from My Only Desire that looks to be fantastic. A 2lp live set from Graham Collier which was recorded at the Stockholm's Jazz Day festival the same year that 'Down Another Road' (arguably his best album) was released.

Massive names here including Harry Beckett, Stan Sulzmann, Karl Jenkins, etc.

Mastered at Gearbox so it should be decent. Their previous live albums have all been fantastic so im expecting good things.

 
Ordered 4 Japanese pressings of jazz LPs from CD Japan from this series and they seem quite nice so far!

Anyone listened to the new self-titled release by Designers (put out by We Jazz)? I enjoy most of the We Jazz label’s music, but I’ve never been inspired to buy any. But this may be the label’s best release. Piano trio with, like most We Jazz output, an ECM-ish sound, but with more edge, out-there exploration, and creativity than I expected from the lineup.

I've got most of these and think they represent the best value reissues done today - the packaging is best in the world, with the attention to detail being unsurpassed and the quality equal to that - they are sourced from digital, but still sound amazing - are the ne plus ultra in fidelity, no - but they are pretty fkin close, as I've said before I don't do shoot outs and diminishing returns doesn't drive my listening...YMMV

That said, I ordered these and am now living in another country so cannot comment how this latest batch sounds...

yea i need to get some of the older ones. have heard the Evans in Tokyo sounds excellent. and i have a few others on my want list. was pretty impressed with them especially for the price! wish i could find one shop with all of the ones i want close to MSRP still. CDJapan seemed to be out of most of the older titles i wanted.

I am tempted to grab some here. I have many meh pressings of these Miles Davis albums but how do these Japanese reissues compare to those from Miles Davis-The Original Mono Recordings serie? These are remastered by Kevin Gray & pressed at RTI, can't go wrong. How is the packaging on both? I bought Someday My Prince Will Come on RSD a few years ago and, as far as I remember, packaging was "standard".

The packaging on the Japanese reissues is miles ahead (no pun intended) of the American ones, which just have very thin standard sleeves. The Japanese sleeves are very nice replica jackets. Thick cardboard and shiny texture.

As for the sound, I am very happy with the KG and RKS cuts, so I didn’t double up on the Japanese versions of those specific albums. I also have quite a few Mofi and AP miles pressings of the other albums from this series. But was happy to get Nefertiti since I only have an old pressing in VG. I think it sounds great, as do the others I got from the series. The US pressings are still mostly easy to find here in shops for $20ish.

I have the KOB. It is fantastic. I got rid of my MOFI, which I liked, simply because of being 45rpm, PITA. I don't feel I gave up much is anything.

I like the old Classic Grundman, which morphed into the UHQR thing, but I felt the MOFI bettered it. I would liken the Japanese KOB more leaning to the Grundman.

The Bill Evans Tokyo is fantastic as well. Nefertiti is amazing, and again I dumped my MOFI for it. The MOFI is very sweet, but again, the 45rpm shit, and the new Japanese stands up very well.

I'd put the packaging on these maybe a step below the Disk Union Blue Note Mono series which went to the ultimate lengths to replicate original...for the price with the Yen still very low, they are unbelievable value and truly what other companies should aspire to...

Bc N&G is a terrible influence, and following RHANDMJ’s lead to replace a couple Miles 45rpm Mofi’s, I bought some from HMV.JP today. As mentioned by MikeH, they‘re also sold @ CD Japan. The records are same price on the two sites, but the sites have different in-stock inventories of this series. I didn’t compare costs of shipping between the two sites, mostly bc I’m already set up on hmv.jp, incl coupons from previous purchases.

The Mofi Miles are incredible, really incredible, but I know I’ll play these albums more in 33rpm singles.

Do you have experience with HMV and titles listed as:

Usually in stock within 2-3 days after ordering

HMV has some other titles in the series I was looking for but are listed as that. CDjapan has better prices though and a rewards program/coupons. can’t recall price difference for shipping
