Definitive Audiophile pressings

Yea--it's excellent. The KG 33 is also good but I prefer the MoFi actually! Which is a big thing to admit considering KG is in my basement I am a big fan of KG's.

Damnit Mike! Do all these court orders we keep getting mean nothing to you?

Well, the production process itself may not be deceptive, but they neglected to reveal the tape to DSD step. So, in my book, the entire One-Step program is deceptive. And these boxes were always One-Steps, with little emphasis on SuperVinyl.

Having said that, I may pick up some of these titles once they are near their actual release dates.
The one step process has nothing to do with the source material. It's about less steps from lacquer to pressing. that's still the case. being deceptive about using a DSD transfer from tape vs AAA is a whole different thing and wasn't just one steps...

I know I'm gonna get the Bitches Brew one step. On the fence about some of the others. I have the Joni box set and while I really enjoy it, don't find myself spinning it a ton. the $125 price tag is definitely steep for something from DSD, but the ones I do have almost all sound incredible. Wouldn't be shocked to see these at Target again or other shops that have sales.

there's a special filing cabinet for all those court orders

oh sorry! thought we were talking about Electric Warrior MoFi (didn't go far enough back in the thread). I have that japanese pressing of Slider and remember it sounding good.

Ah! Yeah, I think the MOFI Electric Warrior is really great too, but I really like the KG as well. Sometimes I like the slight crunchiness of the KG better, others the clarity of the MOFI. The edge to the MOFI, although I prefer the record on 2 sides rather than 4.

Given how good the multiple great Rhino Joni Mitchell pressings sound from over the past 12 years, I don't think it's worth spending $100+ on a mofi unless you REALLY love Joni that much. The Bruce Springsteen series is interesting though. That's a catalogue that hasn't gotten any audiophile reissues over the years, will be interesting to hear the way those come out.

Whitney is a great pick. Random but excellent. Great album

i'd say those plangent Bruce albums are audiophile quality...don't remember if they did The Wild, The Innocent in those box sets though off the top of my head.

interestingly, the Bruces don't seem to be on the MoFi site anymore.

Eh the plangent are good (as are the originals, at least from a mastering perspective) but I wouldn't put them in the league as some of the other UD1S and 45 RPM releases Mofi has done. Like if they can get Born to Run or Greetings from Ashbury Park to sound as different/improved from the other pressings as they did with Blood on the Tracks that would be something.

I love Bruce, but I’m not sure I would categorize any of his albums as “audiophile” per se. I have the recent box set they did with the Plangent Process and they sound awesome. Those early albums were made on really tight budgets and they were pretty open about cutting corners just to get it recorded and approved by the label.

not saying it can't sound better. just saying that I'd consider those plangent ones "audiophile quality". they are on par with stuff like the Joni Mitchell box set to me. and the plangents were an improvement over the OGs for me.

Hey did any of y'all order Loveless Deluxe from their website? Wondering about packaging quality. I need to get a copy of the deluxe and it's just never shown up on these shores...

The deluxe is AAA APPARENTLY... Standard is digital.
I have the 2021 deluxe and it is great. I don't believe it has art prints (too lazy to go to my shelf). According to Discogs, there is a 2022 RE of the deluxe that has the art prints?

But prints aside, 2021 sound is great and looks like both pressed by Optimal.

Did you find yours locally? Or order from overseas? I know there's a rights thing with this album that generally didn't allow this new pressing to be sold in NA. I figured some would slip though eventually but I still haven't seen a single copy anywhere over here.
