Fitness!

I am a big body weight work out person. A decade plus in the military so fitness is emphasized (well, Air Force, so at least passing evals are). In my 20's I was doing handstand pushups, high 30s pullups (real, full extension ones mind you - no kip) and running a 5ish min mile (7:41 was my best 1.5 mile AF fitness eval). Now, at 35 I'm a little more subdued (read: out of shape). But still run a sub 9 min 1.5 mile and do around 15-20 pull ups. Lift weights now and then but mostly body weight stuff. Less running cause Vegas isn't as great for outdoor/trail running as the East coast was. Been doing a strap/TRX type workout lately - Monkii. I backed it on Kickstarter for the hell of it and am actually really enjoying it. Takes all the bodyweight stuff I'm used to but adds some leverage with the straps. Plus, the app they have is really good and keeps workouts fresh.

Dang, you're fast! I'm hoping to run at a 9 minute pace for the half marathon. I'm also working on getting my shorter distances faster. I am good with short speed bursts. I got my 4 x 1200m pace to 7 minute miles, but I'm struggling to get my 15 minute benchmark past 1.9 miles.

I'm not really what one would call a fitness buff but I realize that it's good for me not to hole up in the house and spin records and do crafts/read books. I enjoy yoga, dancing and swimming--I used to be on swim teams in junior high and high school. Now I just stick to gym classes. I usually get in 1-2 yoga classes, a kick boxing class and a zumba class every week. Now that it's summer, I'll probably add in swimming, but I will mostly be dealing with kids so not much time to do laps. Sometimes, the hubs and I go lift weights together on Saturday morning. I mainly want to keep in shape and try to undo all of the sitting I do at work.

Yea but you’re training for something so mad props. I’ve always enjoyed running - especially trail running so a normal run for me is 5-7 miles. But a marathon or half is commendable.

Yea I’ve always been weak in explosive, sprint running relative to distance. I used to like to go to a track and use 400m as part of a sprint/work out/hate your life circuit. So I’d pick 2 bookend anaerobic workouts (eg squats and pushups) and do maybe a 20-30 set of squats, sprint that 400 like Jesus Hitler himself was after me, 20 pushups, then jog back to beginning. The jog is only rest. So that a handful of times in a row and your done. Something like that was always a finisher.

About 6-7 years ago I started doing half marathons. I probably did something like 10-15 of them (including one in Japan and one on the Strip in Vegas) before deciding to do a full. I trained for about 4 months and ended up doing the 26.2 mile L.A. Marathon in 2014. That was one of the last runs I did. Since I stopped running, I've gained weight (about 20-30 pounds) and really need to start running again but I've been saying that for awhile.

Powerlifter here. Recently set a state record for deadlift and promptly went for surgery on a 7 year old hernia that predated the lifting. Just now able to get back in the gym this past week. Hoping to nab the world record in about a year (currently 565# @165#bw in Masters 1a).

I did new leg things yesterday and today my thighs are 100% aches. Carry on.

(Oh, and I don't do anything cool or interesting. Gym once or twice a week. Old workout DVDs at home other days. Stationary bike. I have PCOS so I will never lose weight, I just like to keep my core strongish)

i work out once or twice a week at the gym, mostly treadmill. Just try to keep in shape, walking and running enough to feel good. But I would like to do more, it’s just a matter of time management. And sometimes laziness.

I do stretching and what I call floor work (push-ups, crunches with medicine ball) 5 times a week, and add in 3.5-4 miles of treadmill time 3 times a week. I do a mix of walking and jogging these days to preserve my knees. I figure I'm getting a total of about 11 miles in a week, and that seems to be a good level for me. I'd love to add in another day, but finding the time to do so is really tough.

Anyone working out beyond the walk to the turntable?

I'm running my first half marathon here in a couple weeks. Will likely push for a full marathon by the end of the year.

I too am a runner. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things now after an eventful (for me) 2018. I ran a spring half, a fall full and another half 2 weeks after the full. I didn't achieve my goal time of under 4 hours, but in only my second full (Marine Corps Marathon), I came in at 4:07:07 and was pretty happy with my race overall. I've run many half marathons, and it's definitely my preferred distance. In the race 2 weeks after the full I came in first in my age group (in a small race) with a PR time of 1:42:59. I'm happy to give any race or training recommendations if anyone is interested!
