Vinyl Me Please Essentials

I have a question since there was no real new clue what does rock in quotation marks mean in the first clue? Are the Beatles something other than rock? I kind of get that big Bruno Springsteen is doing a more stripped down folk type record but is filed under rock, is Revolver something out of the ordinary?? Also if it's Check Your Head that's not exactly straight ahead Hip Hop and yet they call that Hip Hop not "Hip Hop".. They really needed to hit us with a real new clue!!
Buffalo Springfield or Dylan. Anyone that thinks it's the Beatles continues to be high.

I don't know...I mean Bruce Springsteen is considered the American Beatles and of course the Beastie Boys are the Hip Hop Beatles so you might as well throw in the genuine article to round this quarter out!!!

I’m guessing the quotation marks is just to emphasise that it’s in the wider general rock sphere rather than necessarily being a straight up rock act like say Thin Lizzy would have been.

And if the Beatles aren't written off - then The Beach Boys Pet Sounds should be on the table.
But its not going to be either of those.

Its not like VMP doesn't play fast and loose with the clues.
So does it make sense that it could be: Brown, James - "I got you, I feel good" or "Bluesbreakers" (with John Mayall) - "Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton"?

Fuck Eric Clapton.

Sorry, that's a knee-jerk reaction...really don't know what's wrong with me. Every time I hear his name it kind of just comes out.
no, that's the appropriate reaction. do you know how fucking racist you had to be in the 70s and 80s for people to take notice and then go to the trouble of starting a movement just because you're such a racist?

cream is amazing and most of that band are total shitbags -- even bruce wasn't that great, but compared to ginger and eric he's fucking price charming (here's ginger being nice and sweet and eric casually dismissing bonham, easily one of my favorite 1-minute youtube clips ever)

The Ginger Baker documentary, Beware of Mr. Baker, is nuts. Good drummer, absolutely crazy person.

So, today is the last day for that VMP signup deal. I was thinking about doing the 3month and getting a $25 credit. Is Interpol the Sept essential? And any word on what is coming in October and onwards? I own a large portion of the other essentials already(Modest Mouse, Sigur Ros, Justice, etc.), just as black vinyl so no real "need" to rebuy.

I'm just waffling on whether I should drop $120 on 3 records and a $25 credit, which, the 25 basically doesnt even cover the cost of one additional album

Interpol is September

Speculation for October and onward are Bruce Springsteen Nebraska, Beastie Boys Check Your Head and somehow The Beatles Revolver is the other frontrunner...

Second set of clues dropped today, the only Hip Hop one people know is J Dilla The Diary the other 2 are LA artists with records from 2011 and 2022...

Classics, not following but the classics thread is very active at the moment

Miles Davis - Star People (1983) for October (leaked elsewhere). The other 2 are jazz as well (1959 and 1960)
Thanks. Y'all convinced me, I'm gonna skip the promotion.

Iirc the forerunners are mingus ah um, everybody loves Bill Evans, time out or shape of jazz to come. Star people is confirmed.

Imo the front runners are Sun Ra, Ornette Coleman, and probably one of Mingus/Monk/Lateef. We can rule out Brubeck and I don’t see how that Bill Evans fits the clues
