Definitive Audiophile pressings

Been trying the last couple of months to keep to a 1 in 1 out rule. Sold 6 and so far only added 5 for July. Definitely been relying more on my digital collection lately so that is helping to keep the balance.

Yeah I let Roon lapse because I wasn’t using it but I probably should buy a streamer and try to get the most out my files and the Apple Music again. I like the look of the new MF one that matches my phono stage. I honestly can’t see myself replacing the CD player ever.

I'm just ready for it to all be over. The whole thing is stupid. They should have said they started using DSD when they first switched over from cutting from analogue. The records still sound fantastic. Don't think we need any more 45 minute videos or think pieces on the matter.

The whole "controversy" is reminding me why I really disliked the vinyl community at large when I first started buying records. This forum excluded obviously, but on other forums/FB communities/etc, the responses are insane to me. A lot of responses make me think that people aren't even buying records for the music.

At the end of the day, I just care if the pressing is good and sounds good on my system. And MoFi delivers that for me by and large. I'll still buy them if I like the titles.
I wish I could upvote\like this comment x1000. My passion has been and will always be the music first, everything else secondary. Discovering new music is what brings me the most joy.

Every so often I think about getting a cd player again since I still have about 200 cds, but then realize I have them all ripped. Roon is pricy but it really has improved my enjoyment and accessing my digital collection

Wow! Congratulations mate! That is both exciting and a very good reason to cut back!

Tell me about the space, down to one kallax cube remaining…

I really should look into digital again. My old pi burnt out and my old SACD player started acting up within a week of each other a few months back and I just haven’t even thought about replacing them since…
Thanks! My wife and I are excited. Have a few months of freedom left before the baby arrives!

I'm still enjoying Roon a lot. Been slowly building out my digital setup and I think it's at a place I'm really happy with. I'd potentially upgrade the Denafrips Ares to the Pontius somewhere down the line but it really does sound awesome. I still like the ritual of sitting down and listening to a record--my wife and I do that most weekends in the morning with coffee/tea. Don't see myself ever stopping buying records altogether, but I was getting to the point where I had records coming in all the time and just having stacks I hadn't listened to yet.

I consider getting a CD player too every now and then, but instead I'll sometimes buy CDs for cheap and rip those to my NUC for Roon. You're right--Roon really does improve my enjoyment of listening to my digital collection. The UI is really nice, I can listen to it on my main system, or Sonos, or a google home really easily. It's really effortless.

I still pickup a cd a month or so. Mostly stuff that is just not available to stream or the stream quality is crap. Also pickup cheap deluxe editions mostly for the nice packages and extensive liner notes that are not available elsewhere.

Yeah I had it for 3 years but increasingly I found myself not using it because I was streaming away from home, and Apple Music was cheaper than Qobuz, and just playing vinyl at home.

If I do look to take a knife to the collection to make space for more stuff I might have to look into it again but the thoughts of 2 streaming services seems crazy because Qobuz and tidal are shit on CarPlay and Apple Music doesn’t work through Roon lol.

I have a bunch of old SACDs from when that era was going strong in the early 00s. I used to be really into 5.1 music. Not as practical in my office when I work so I took the Onkyo SACD player and moved it into my office and run it in stereo mode into my Adcom. I've never done an A/B of some of the duplicates I own like the MOFI Sea Change to the SACD version or the Bill Withers Greatest Hits MOFIs that I own on both platforms.

I also have a portable hard drive full of SACD rips that were done on old Playstation 3s that had the ability to copy the source files from SACDs. You can then unlock the DSD files. I used to put them on an old Pono device to listen to when I went on trips or in the car. Haven't really touched it since I got a new car last year with Carplay. It would be cool to have device that could stream those from my computer over to the Adcom. Anyone know of something that might do that? A wifi enabled DAC?

My library has quite a lot of CDs so I'll sometimes get CDs from there and rip them. There's also a record shop that's entirely donation and a charity in the music hall in my town. They have TONS of CDs and box sets and they are all $1.

Have you heard the B2B In Utero? it’s the 320 cut which sounds really really good and is supposed to be AAA. The BG is supposed to be best but it costs a lot more

This is new news to me! I'm going to have to look into it!

This still available on Amazon? Can’t seem to find it.

Found it on Amazon Canada and it was advertised as the Back To Black version!

You’d need a streamer, either with a separate DAC or a built in one. The issue you will run into is getting a streamer that supports native DSD. You’re often looking either a degree of home brew at lower prices or high end for that. You could also just get a DSD compatible DAC that accepts usb and just connect the computer they’re stored on to it.

Thanks for the info. My wife will be thrilled when I let her know I'm going to look into yet another way to listen to music that costs tons of money. Anybody know a good couch to sleep on?

That depends I mean how "GOOD" of a couch are we talking here? Like are you in the market for a limited edition numbered couch? Or is this gunna be one of those AAA pressed at QCP (Quality Chesterfield Pressing) couches that are all the rage right now? You can probably save a few bucks and go with a COMFI couch, they've just been discovered to have a digital step so prices have dropped. Lots options to think about.

Oh and the lead time on all these couches is 17 months.

Personally I would avoid the Lenny Kravitz designed ones

They tend to be too big for the room I find

Michael Fremer says he knew those couches have a digital step in them but he covered for Quality Chesterfield Pressing. Mike45 is outraged as he has been buying up every QCP chesterfield he can get his hands on and drooling over them on his YouTube channel and feels violated.
