June 2022 Vinyl Spin Challenge - Red (N&G's Version)

29 – The Very First Night

To me this is one of those songs that I’d probably like but then I remember another song with a similar enough theme (albeit a different overall conclusion) and just want to play that instead. No offense to The Very First Night but Supercut just exists still.

Play a true debut release of an artist (first album, single, etc.)

The beginning of a long strange trip.

Play an album that contains the “best” version of a particular type of song (in your opinion)

T Rex - Slider
I think Bowie took Glam Rock to new places, but Marc Bolan perfected the blueprint for it on this album. You could pretty much play any song off of here and say “this is what glam rock was all about”

28 – Run
Hey, it’s an Ed Sheeran sighting. Apparently, it was between this and Everything Has Changed for placement on the album proper and Everything Has Changed won out.

Play a fast-paced album (ideally with at least one song that you’d find on a running playlist)

The Wrens - Secaucus

This one has actually been the soundtrack to many runs.

I don't run. But I have played this a bunch in kitchens I worked in, and on some big move days at my new gig, which would be my version of running playlists. I love all their stuff but this one and 100% Yes (their only album I don't have on vinyl. Yet!) never fail to get me amped right up!

I don't know that there is much I can say about this gem of a record that @Yer Ol' Uncle D hasn't already said here. Thanks Unc!

Lorde - The Love Club EP

Bootleg of the debut EP from a generational artist! This ep has quite a few hidden gem tracks of hers including the title track and the opener “Bravado”, the latter of which is one of my favorites in her discography. This boot also has bunch of remix’s that I usually just ignore if I take this out lol

30 – All Too Well (10 Minute Version)
It’s a pretty epic closer and also makes my job at the end of this one really easy.
Play an album that represents the end of an artist's career

Good times, @waruv.

I don't think this one will ever be topped as an epitaph.

Bowie - always two steps ahead of us..

Laurie Spiegel - The Expanding Universe

One of my top50 all time, just making the cut at #50.
How does 28min 28sec sound? The title track of this record of avantgarde masterclass is akin to floating in a no gravity zone in outer space. I'll never forget having discovered this album and this sprawling piece of modular synthesis. How was this possible in 1978??
And yes, it is Musique Plastique approved. ;)

Well let's finish this baby out. It kind of applies to both. This was his only solo album so in that sense it was his final item as a solo artist, but I just really wanted to hear him shred for nine plus minutes on his rendition of I Want You (She's So Heavy). Man this album rips.

Eddie Hazel - Game, Dames, and Guitar Thangs

And folks, I want to thank everyone for participating so whole heartedly with this Challenge, it was one of the crappiest months of my life and it really did raise my spirits and give me a lot of really cool posts to read.

I'll likely allow a couple weeks for people to catch up - if you think you won't catch up but you participated let me know and I'll add you to the drawing. I have a few ideas for whoever wins the drawing but I'd prefer to get someone a thing they'd like so it'll be a chat to whether it's a purchase from an online local I can have shipped, something from my collection, or a direct ship of something.

The Allman Bros. Band - Eat A Peach

10 minutes!…pfft… mere child’s play, The Allman Brothers dropped a 33 minute version of “Mountain Jam” on Eat A Peach. That single track takes up two full sides (Sides B & D respectively). This was the track I would always play a few times in a row if someone with terrible taste is making poor choices at the juke box at the local tavern.
