black star drop.. dunno wtf site that is tho lol
Yeah, I read a Talib Kweli interview on npr yesterday, and unfortunately it sure sounds like there's no plans for vinyl for now. And it's only showing up on luminary.

I mean, maybe that's the wrong question. But putting it behind a paywall means...

That means the artists get paid. If you are truly a fan of Black Star, then you will respect the fact that what made sense for us, business-wise, was for us to put it on Luminary and get paid regardless of what happens in the music business. If you bought the Black Star album in the last 20 years, you paid Universal Records, which is one of the biggest companies on Earth. You know who you did not pay? You did not pay Black Star, because we didn't see any of that money. You know, people come and say, "Hey, what about what I want? I want the vinyl. I want it on Spotify. I want..." What you want does not matter. Know what I'm sayin'? What Black Star wants matters.

Jesus, 25 years? I remember doing a presentation in 8th grade music class on this album. 👴🏽

I get and appreciate the sentiment that they want to get paid, and that's totally understandable, but I'm not joining some random podcast platform that I'll never use just to listen to an album. Put it up on bandcamp and let me buy it outright. All this will do is lead to piracy of it if it hasn't already.

I had this local record store that my 5 best friends and I frequented every single week to buy up their new hip-hop releases. We went there so often that they would let us buy that next week's releases (all records dropped on Tuesdays back then) on the previous Thursday when they received them. I remember everyone being so hyped for this album and having to wait till that next Tuesday while we all had it the weekend before. I think we had it almost completely memorized word for word before it officially dropped.

Yeah, I'd be livid too. They were $250 for the Denver show and I balked at that as absurd seeing that Conway did M&G on his tour for $25.
I regretted not doing it for Con's tour so I went ahead this time. It's a lot of dough (kind of absurd) but considering Conway and West could easily retire at any time it was worth it to me:/

Did you have to subscribe to Luminary? Download an app?
I just signed up from my browser and I’m playing it from their website, but I did. Was $35 for a year of access which is essentially the price of buying a Black Star LP on pre-order. And now I get full access to the Midnight Miracle Podcast which is hosted by Mos Def, Talib, and Dave Chapelle. I discovered it a few days ago and it kind of rocked my world, so signing up was a no brainer.

Is the album censored on Luminary? Or is it just my “unofficial” copy 🫣?
