New Music Friday!

I decided to listen to Spoon next instead of Cult of Luna. I'm enjoying the hell out of this. Spoon is one of those bands I've always been pretty sure I'd like, but always put off listening to. I even own a couple of their records I found for good prices, and I've never spun them. Might be time to change that!

My first Spoon album as well. Minus the owning a couple of their records part we seem to be on the same page with this one!

So don't let us hanging...do you like it or not? 🤔
Because of my affinity for the first couple of albums, I've had to slowly detach from the fact that they're likely not going to go back to that "safe" sound. With that said, the singles were a bit jarring but they've grown on me significantly, and I can appreciate the risks that were taken. I'm now realizing that this was never a safe band, just a band that hadn't yet found their fully realized sound.

I'm going to give it the patented VMP 3 spins, but I can definitely see this one become one of my favorites.

Now go listen to some DLO3! :p

Preferably their entire catalogue! ;)

I might have to drive over to @Hollywood 's house and commandeer his turntable with my DLO3 records. But I guess he's safe for now. Damn downtown blockade keeping the good music from deserving ears. Streaming will have to do. DLO3 is some of the greasiest organ jazz-funk you'll ever hear. Hope you find some time to give them a shot @Hollywood.

Oh, and I forgot to mention this one from last night's listens.

Zé Bigode Orquestra - Clube da Fumaça

It wasn't on my Radar List, but a random stumble-upon while browsing Bandcamp - great Brazilian Afrobeat/Reggae vibes if you're into such things.

Sounds like the new Big Thief pressing is a dud. Clipped and distorted vocals from poor mastering, noisy vinyl, right channel volume louder than left channel. Glad I held off on this preorder. It'll be digital only for me
Listening to it right now. This is the first Big Thief album I have enjoyed enough to purchase on vinyl. This is a very average GZ pressing. Not terrible but there is some noise especially in quieter sections. There is a bit of distortion (at least on side one) as the needle gets towards the end. That being said, I have certainly heard worse. The pressing issues aren’t enough to deter me from spinning it.

I am fine with the $30 I dropped on it. I would probably be a bit disappointed if I had paid much more than that.

Also, I think the master is good I just think they needed 5 sides instead of 4 and someone besides GZ to press it.

It's good 👍I'm enjoying it but not album of the week material for me 🤷‍♂️

Can't say I expected it would be album-of-the-week material for you, I know our tastes diverge as much as they overlap. 🤝 I am, however, incredibly glad you're checking it out and enjoying it. Thanks for not making @Turbo have to deal with the protesters in order to come hijack your turntable! ;)

DLO3 is very very much my wheelhouse, hence album-of-the-week for me - but I've also had some pleasant surprises in Big Thief and Spoon that stretch my usual tastes a bit. All in all a great week for new releases! 🔥
