Vinyl Me Please Essentials

If it is Tribe, Wu, or '93 'Til that we have reason to believe will sound better than recent reissues I would be immensely grateful if someone could grab me one. Here's hoping it isn't Shaq Diesel.
You're obviously hoping it isn't Shaq Diesel because Shaq Fu - Da Return is clearly the better choice for Essentials, right? 😜

I own both but already both but these are two of my all-time favorites albums. I know 2xLP version of Midnight Marauders would sound significantly better as the 1LP very quiet and is lacking in the low end. I would assume a 2xLP of either would be an improvement.

So yeah I am in either way. If it ends up being anything other than either of these albums I would be supremely disappointed.
I'm right on the same page, either would be awesome, anything else is going to be a big disappointment

Has anyone here received their Doors mono yet? Friend of mine got one and doesn’t want it. Curious about how it sounds.

I have a VG original mono press already.

I'm hoping it's not Wu tang

I already own it
But it will receive the Essentials treatment by VMP! I own Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) on vinyl too but will be over the moon if it’s the Essentials ROTM as it’s one of the best albums of all-time!!! I’m keen to get a more definitive pressing for such a masterpiece!

I’d obviously prefer Midnight Marauders as an Essentials ROTM. However, I would be very interested to see what VMP will do with Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) if they make it an Essentials ROTM!

I think even Souls of Mischief is a touch to underground for the essentials treatment. Tribe or Wu would certainly attract collectors far and wide, Souls of Mischief is much more attractive as a RHH pick imo
Yes! Souls of Mischief’s ‘93 Til Infinity is a pretty great album, but it’s certainly not one of my favourite hip-hop albums of 1993. I would be disappointed if it ended up being the Essentials ROTM! It’s a great album but not even a top 10 hip-hop album of 1993 for me!

Freestyle Fellowship, Snoop Dogg, Digable Planets, Wu-Tang Clan, Black Moon, A Tribe Called Quest, Onyx, De La Soul, Guru & KRS-One all released better albums in the same year for me!

I almost bought it at the time and sat in it. Then it sold out and it’s an obscene price for uk buyers now. Ah nuts!
I haven't heard that one, but I would assume it's top notch like my other Intervention pressings. Music direct accepts pre-orders on out of stock items and doesn't charge until the item comes back in stock, but I don't know what they charge to ship to the UK.

Played my copy of both the Doors LP and 7", and I need some commentary from the pros on here...

How should this album sound? Should there be some hiss? How good / clean can this album possibly get? I noticed my same sound quality issues on both the 7" and the LP, which makes me think that this is how it's supposed to sound. I thought The End sounded fantastic, though.

Before I start out for a replacement, I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt here.

Definitely sounds like a bit gritty/claustrophobic, I can’t recall if there’s hiss but I don’t remember it sounding particularly audiophile either. That being said the AP 45 blew me away with how much they were able to clean it up and create separation between musical elements.

I do not have the VMP version of this, I've got the AP 2LP 45 stereo but I can tell you that this album was not recorded particularly well and it does generally sound kind of thin and gritty and there is definitely a noise floor in there. Also the VMP is mono so if you don't have a mono cart that will likely also not help with general sound quality. But I'd be interested to hear what others think of it in comparison.

Gritty... yes, that's definitely a better descriptor.

Oh, also interesting. I noticed this on my Ortofon 2M Red setup.

Thanks, guys. I'm thinking my copy is probably fine as is. I'd never noticed these flaws on the CD / streaming versions of this album.

I had an original mono for quite a while and it was my play copy. Never sounded good imo with minimal mid range. Break on Through does have more impact in mono though the album as a whole doesn’t really benefit one way or another from mono or stereo presentation. Mono is more “punchy”. The recording wasn’t good I guess and the band wasn’t really an audiophile type of group for the debut anyway. It’ll be interesting to hear the VMP once I get it. I’m assuming the best sound quality will be the AP but like others have said, that one is stereo.
