Music News / Reviews

I'd say Actor has been her best work. the s/t was good, obviously a little weirder than the first two but still a good album. Masseducation was a step down in terms of songwriting and it was very focused on surface level appeal.

Somehow I've never liked Actor all that much. It's definitely better than her more recent material but for some reason I don't connect to it like I do Marry Me.

I think Actor and Strange Mercy are great albums. But I never could quite get into S/T. I thought it was the most disappointing album she released at the time, and I still feel that way. Masseduction wasn't that much better, but there were a handful of songs on there I enjoy. I still hold out hope when she releases a new album, but I kinda agree with what's been said here. It doesn't seem like she's doing anything that interesting musically, but she tends to come across as if what she's making is some big, incredible thing that's so unique. I still wish she would just release a guitar-shredding album cause I know she can do that. But she's been moving farther and farther away from that as the albums come out.

Think this pretty much sums up my feelings:

I’ve felt this way too. Her music has a very, very finished and sterile feeling to it. It’s well done but not fun or jammy. I don’t think I’ve ever had a song of hers that I end up needing to listen to again and again on repeats because I’ve loved it so much. I like her music but it doesn’t get over that final hurdle of doing anything for me. It’s a very nice listen most of the time and that’s about it. I’ll definitely pay money to see her live and I may buy her records in the future, but that comment makes a lot of sense.

Reading the reviews/comments on the new St. Vincent (which I adore), I've always wondered: does anyone else enjoy reading bad reviews of music/films/art that they personally love?

Sometimes.
5 listens at work to Daddy's Home later and it has clicked. Not ashamed to be in the minority with critics on this one.

the Brexit ripples in the music industry have been awful.

Sometimes it almost seems like nobody actually had a plan for Brexit and they were just winging it the whole time.

exciting news for Texas live music fans- or folks who root for the independent scene.

Margin Walker Presents was the largest independent promoter in the state, and booked exciting tours through all the major cities in Texas. collapsing under the pandemic, the concert producer officially shut down in December- but they're back, baby!

the principal players at MWP have returned as Resound, and they're coming out of the gate with with everyone from Big Freedia to Bikini Kill. stoked.

This is so weirdly worded. I don't care, i'm not a local customer and in fact have never been to salem, or in any physical bullmoose store, but now i totally want to know the gossip on wtf happened. this reads less like "the store wasn't profitable" and more like "we found gary had banged all the other employees on the stacks of product and we had to replace everything because of the stains"

TL;DR "you guys want to wear masks?! you're fired and we're closing the store!" -- this caused blowback and then they rehired everyone and gave them backpay etc
