Music News / Reviews

Got the email from the band and it’s official. Teases like this have been around since AHFOD era. This is already elaborate.

Pinned post is more of same from coldplaying forum but there is another comment that claims they heard the scanner say the quickest part of the world is to dig a hole and jump in. It will take 42 mins , which they are historically fascinated with the number 42.

I feel like St. Vincent peaked in 2014 and has been slowly going downhill since. It feels like she cares a lot of her brand/appearance and less about the music of late.
My wife and I got into Annie's stuff late and got to see the Masseduction tour. It was an impressive enough show, and we enjoyed it and the "art exhibit meets Prince solo tour" presentation, but the album didn't really stick with me and I find I just have no actual interest in the new album. I don't even like Sleater-Kinney that much, but I think Annie's involvement in that fiasco may have had some impact on me as well. Plus, I remember listening to one of those Song-Exploder type podcasts with Annie explaining how/why she wrote "New York," and both she and the host were acting like it was some timeless classic and I just didn't get it. In aggregate, the whole thing leaves me more and more cold with every iteration I come across. I do need to re-listen to the earlier albums to decide whether I just need to move on entirely, but it's hard to get too excited given the above.

That's the only song that I even remember from Masseducation. It's a fine little song. But it's not groundbreaking at all. I don't want to throw around the word, but I think she's become too pretentious.

That is the word! The funny thing is that while "New York" was my least-favorite song on Masseduction, it is the one I remember best, partially because I disliked it so much and then it turned out to be "the single..."

For me, I'd say 2007, since I think she's been gradually getting worse since her debut. The stuff she's done recently (especially the new album and Masseduction) are practically unlistenable.
I'd say Actor has been her best work. the s/t was good, obviously a little weirder than the first two but still a good album. Masseducation was a step down in terms of songwriting and it was very focused on surface level appeal.
