Everything Video Games!

Been on an RPG kick lately. I've been playing through both Final Fantasy 8 remake, and Dragon Quest XI. Both have been fantastic experiences so far.

FFVIII is the one that got away as a kid. I never completed it. Got to the end boss area of disc 3 and got stuck in two ways. The first was that I was a dumb kid and didn't understand that the bosses scaled to the highest leveled person in your group. I had been a fool and let Squall get to somewhere around 12-15 levels higher than everyone else. When at the boss fight, the other two characters in my team were getting wiped out in only a couple hits, and I couldn't heal fast enough, which just left Squall on his own to slowly die. I'm doing much better this time, everyone is within 5 levels at disc 2. The other way I got stuck is that before I could figure out how to overcome the level thing, my disc got scratched beyond being playable, so I never got a chance to finish it. The remake does the best thing and allows 3x speed, which is a lifesaver, because I don't think I would have the patience for some of the ways this game slows everything to a crawl (looking at you GF cutscenes).

DQ XI is a whole other experience. I feel like this game didn't get much coverage when it came out, and that's a shame. The combat is very straightforward, and I appreciate how simple it is. You can just run around, quest and explore, and it's really relaxing. I just got to the part where it links this game to all the other games, and I was blown away both by the simple fact that they did this, and also HOW they did this. Won't spoil it, but it was really cool when I discovered it.
FFVIII is all about that draw system, dude. If you do it right, at end game you're unstoppable. Just Limit Breaking for 9999 a hit, casting Triple and Haste on everything. I screwed up my first play through and it took FOREVER and a ton of items to get through the last boss. Then my buddy did it right and it was over in a heartbeat.

Agreed, I did not understand the system AT ALL when I was younger. It makes more sense now, and I've been farming draws as I go along.

FFVIII was such a disappointment when it came out it basically ruined final fantasy for me. FF6 and FF7 were basically my favorite games growing up. FFVIII sucks on almost every level (aside from Triple Triad) and I will defend that opinion forever.

DQXI is a masterpiece.

Cmon Zelda announcement!!!

There were rumors that Breath of the Wild 2 was on pace for a Q2 2021 release. That would fit in this Direct. Plus, this year is the 35th Anniversary of Legend of Zelda.

But, I think this is the pre-game Direct for all the Zelda stuff. They haven't had a First Party Direct for like a year and a half, so I think this one will get us up to speed on things, then they'll have one later in the year dedicated to all things Zelda.

Either way, I'm just excited for more Nintendo News.

Yeah I’m hoping they do a Zelda all stars and a botw 2

FF6 was awesome.
[hot-take]I couldn't get into FF7 at all. Most overrated video game of all time, in my opinion.[/hot-take]
FFVIII is my favourite. It hit me at just the right time in my life and Gunblades rule. Best Soundtrack of any FF game as well.
FFIX I really enjoyed, even though I wasn't a fan of the art direction (except the Black Mages, holy crap they looked rad).
FFX had it's moments. The voice acting was the worst part of the game.
That's pretty much where I stopped. I've tried to get through FFXII a couple times but haven't made it. Never even tried FXIII but I did buy FFXIV...

FFXI is an MMO, so it probably doesn't count, but I never played it.
FFXIV doesn't really count either, but is a fantastic game, the last expansion, Shadowbringers, was one of the better RPG's I've ever played.

I'm thinking we're definitely going to see some new info on BOTW2. I bet it will have been bumped to towards the end of the year. Zelda all stars would be great too, but I'm less sure about that.

Also think we'll see a new Smash Bros character, and the ace attorney game that leaked last week. Rumors have been pointing towards a Mario Kart 9 announcement as well.

Either way, I'm excited. First full direct since September 2019. Basically 1,000 years ago.

I'm a few quests away from finally starting Shadowbringers. Played basically nothing but FFXIV this month, and it's been great.

6 is my favorite, with 9 close behind. As a kid, 8 drew me in with the GF animations and that opening cutscene. As an adult, I hate waiting on those GF animations (they're still cool though), and love all the awkward dialogue and silliness in this game, which is trying to be dark and broody. Also I agree the music is tops. And I do agree with @gouis that Triple Triad is the best.

Skyward sword hd...but no Zelda all stars :(

Yeah, bit if a bummer. Wish I wouldn't have to hook up my wii u to play TP and WW still, but hopefully someday.

skyward sword is ironically the only Zelda game I've never played or owned. and those joy cons look mighty clean 😙

I enjoyed it when it first released, but the motion controls were definitely a hump to get over when playing it. Excited to see they'll be adding some QoL improvements!!

I’m hoping for another announcement in a few months :)

Later this year we'll see more info on BotW2!

I'm looking forward to the new Smash character and Splatoon 3.

Also Stubbs the zombie??? I may have to pick that one up. A classic on the OG Xbox.

$60 seems extreme in the wake of the Mario collection where you got 3 games. Those updated graphics and new controls must have taken a lot of work.
