The Blue Note Thread

Amazon.ca has been slow with all the BN reissues since the pandemic, which totally makes sense. I am just surprised the Byrd shipped on Friday (release day). I hate giving Jeff my $ but I have no other real option where I live. And he has yet to cancel any on me.

100% agree with this sentiment, I hate the thought that my $ is going into his pockets. Unfortunately, North of the border, especially during COVID, there are no other options for online vinyl other than the beast that is Amazon.ca. It makes all the more difficult when the price points they’re offering are tough to beat (Roots and Herbs is on sale for $33 CAD right now). I love my country, but buying music online has never been a thing we do well.

Did anyone get the Byrd In Flight TP through yet. I had a look on SHForums to see if we had a 2021 list yet & see a few people complaining :(

I'm expecting my copy any day

Yup, I am checking their forum from time to time. They want the list as much as we want :)

Byrd In Flight sounds amazing, definitely one of the best Tone Poet releases so far.
I got to listen for the first time last night. I was distracted for part of it, but the part I wasn't distracted for sounded really good. The drum sound on this LP seems especially good and Lex Humphries tearing it up doesn't hurt either!

Byrd In Flight sounded great to me. There was one part on I believe the 2nd song where the trumpet sounded too hot but in total, I have no complaints. I need The Waiting Game to get sent out by UDiscover.

"No more issues and I was asked to not say anymore other than what I already have. It's all good and I know it will be anytime now."

"Hey, some good news is that Joe is with Kevin today and tomorrow mastering 4 more titles. So that's pretty cool!"

Interesting to read the quote that "The Soothsayer is not going to be a Tone Poet". To be so absolute makes me think it might be getting put out by someone else. VMP Classics for June 2021?

I hope not. I would like to add this record to my collection. You must be right though, it might be reissued soon, maybe in the BN Classics serie?

Yeah, it just seems like a weird statement to make. (I haven't read the SH thread, so I don't know the context though.)

If Soothsayer is coming, but not as a TP, the other options could be...
...if Music Matters has some new batch of SRX titles? (They did it as a 45 10 years ago.)
...Maybe as an Acoustic Sounds title? They're doing titles in the UMe catalogue, and Blue Note is in there, although I haven't seen a specific reference to BN.
...Or a one-off release by a small label like what happened with Grant Green's Sunday Mornin' ?
...or VMP.

And Soothsayer is what, the 7th best album by Shorter? Seems very on brand for VMP Classics.
Just after I let my VMP sub lapse seems cosmically about right for me, too.

Not to kill anyones dream, but I'm pretty sure it isn't an option because it has had a Music Matters release in the past. The Tone Poet series doesn't copy any MM releases.

Your probably right, but still doesn't prevent it from being re-issued by VMP, or even the BN Classic series. I suspect the classic series is the likely option. They might have a rough plan for a few years of classic releases. Once they have done the 'top ten' so to speak, I'm sure they will do more titles, probably quite a few that have been issued by MM and/or AP
