Sorry @HiFi Guy I missed this question.. I played phone tag with them for a couple weeks but did get a return authorization last week. Boxing it up and shipping it back this week. Didn't sound like it was going to be a quick process, so It'll likely be a while before I update. But I'll keep everyone informed.. I have no doubt it'll get fixed.
 
I just wanted to share some unexpected results from cleaning a few problem LPs. I've been opening and playing a number of NEW LPs I received in anticipation of the arrival of the Studiodeck. There were three LPs that had significant groove distortion on various tracks.

First, I made sure the table was level; VTF was properly set, stylus was clean, etc. I did a quick search online and one of the remedies was to clean the record - so I did that because there was nothing to lose. Lo and behold, to my amazement, the groove distortion on all 3 LPs has almost entirely vanished. Prior to that, I was starting to think there may be an issue with my Studiodeck. I never had that issue with the LP12's I had owned. Even the Nitty Gritty I owned never seemed to do much in my experience...but low-tech soap and a sponge this time did the trick on brand new vinyl. Weird. Phew! cuz the albums in question are Miles - In a Silent Way, Weather Report - Heavy Weather, and Mott the Hoople - Brain Capers ...all classics....

My binge listening continues...

I still have both. The Star Sound offers a more lively sound, and presents a greater sense of space.

To be fully honest, the difference is subtle. It can be best seen in well recorded strong vocal performances where the sense of the room is apparent. I've had the luxury to have both on hand, but without an A/B test with specific material, it would be hard to decipher from memory alone unless you've had extended time with each. But having both in house, I've found myself consistently reaching for the Star Sound over the MoFi. And the Star Sound doesn't fit on the spindle over a closed lid, so it's not a matter of convenience. I was surprised at first, but I'm more surprised at how much I've continued to prefer it. I've had it on loan, and trying to work out how to make it formally my own.

I will also add that it doesn't tackle a dish warp quite as well. Minor difference, but the MoFi does better with a dish warp.
 
Well, I found my first “flaw” with this table. If the record has a decent warp, it’s not going to play or track right.

I have an old record that’s criminally floppy and has a massive warp. I only keep it because it’s of family members performing. It plays flawlessly on mine.
