Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

@folsom_lives Have you seen the StudioDeck Foundation? @AnthonyI came upon it a couple months ago - appears to be the same table without different feet and sans dustcover, includes a StudioTracker for $999.
Interesting. So no dust cover or "special $200 feet". But it comes with a cart with a non user replaceable stylus? These are definitely some things to consider. I wonder how much the dustcover costs down the road because that is a necessity around my house.

I do enjoy the dust cover for dog purposes though...damn dog hair :)

$200

Hmmmm. So "base model" with add-on dust cover, use the studio-tracker until that's spent, add a Grado Gold and that gets me to what...

~$1600 all in? Might be worth looking into. Anybody want to enlighten me as to why I may need $200 feet other than the obvious vibration damping?

Then again, the Ultra-Deck is $2000 sans cart...

Crutchfield has the Studiodeck with StudioTracker and all the dustcover and feet for $1,350. Add the GradoGold and I'm back to the $1,600. Seems like the base model is not the deal I though it was.

Do you not roll the belt up or down on the platter as well, so the belt is on the corresponding groove? I haven't noticed any sonic difference either way, but I'm too anal not to match them up every time.
After one rotation on it's own it goes into place.

Open Box - Standard version (Feet and cover) - $999

New Foundation Studiodeck - $999

The open box is a far more appealing option, that foundation seems a bit of a bum note from the outside.

I can see why they did it, doesn't mean it's the best option for everyone........and you know ANY company will gouge you on those things you go without from the get go. An extra run of just dust covers can't be a good money maker, but this also helps push consumers to spend the extra on the "standard" edition.

Options, options, options...........and you know the Foundation sales will be right up there regardless.

Reminds me of when my wife and I went to get a new car and the base model was missing things that you wouldn't think would be missing. Like the passenger side arm rest. So the obvious choice for any sort of comfort and utility would be the next higher model. Frustrating to say the least.

I can’t to be honest and I’m just sceptical of the worth of this option. Too many compromises for a grand and far too close in price to the one above to have made the exercise worthwhile.

LOL, that's a little much.

Again, with a TT I get it, but that's because I'm usually taking the dust cover off when playing albums...............but I wouldn't want it sitting there without when I wasn't ;)

Ya, but @Joe Mac you need to keep in mind the type of consumer WE are as opposed to the masses. While MD is no doubt catering to "Audiophiles", there is no arguing the lack of some basic knowledge, or what I would deem common sense within the "Beginner Audiophile" head some times ;)
