The NBA Thread

Iggy had an awful game 1...He was a -25. I personally don't expect Herro to play so awfully and for the Lakers to hit 13 of their first 19 3s...but no Bam is kind of a death sentence for the Heat this game. Miami will have to play a perfect game and the Lakers will have to go back to some of their bad tendencies. I'm hoping it's at least a little bit more entertaining of a game tonight.

Spo loves to switch it up with zone, maybe he just starts out with that and sees how it goes

It's amazing how many wide open 3s the Lakers are able to get against the Heat. And how many offensive boards...offensive boards makes sense especially with Bam out, but still...
That's part of playing that zone where you put your bigs on the perimeter. Might be the only option they have and hope the Lakers start shooting below 30%. And the Heat are gonna have to start taking a lot more themselves.

But they often didn't even bother closing out on some threes. Rondo took a few completely wide open ones and I know that's typically a shot you're willing to let them take...but this was a game where KCP and Danny Green were largely non-factors on offense and Lakers didn't even shoot particularly well and still won by double digits. Laker bigs + Bron just sneak behind that zone and get offensive rebound after offensive rebound. Doesn't help that Olynyk is the only big they can play right now really and while he was actually pretty decent on offense, his defense and boxing out has been pretty awful (not a surprise).

That was one of the best games I’ve watched in a long time.
Jimmy Buckets just will not give up. The man played 47 minutes.

It'll be interesting to see if AD has any lingering effects from getting hobbled tonight. He was limping pretty badly toward the end.

Goddammit I'm still at work LOL but I am interested in making an analysis once I watch a condensed game. I have no idea how it went down but the comments have me itching to go home.

Lowe's pod today made me think about a convo we had awhile back in relation to Lavert and MPJ and their trade value. @MikeH

----
Bobby Marks: "I think if Michael Porter Jr. was in play and you have the contract of Gary Harris, does that interest you if you are New Orleans"?

Lowe: "If MPJ is in the deal... A) I will be absolutely blown away and B) the Pelicans should and would say "yes, thank you very much let's make that deal. I do not think the Nuggets are putting MPJ on the table for anybody who might become realistically available... other than maybe Bradley Beal... I think Michael Porter Jr. is the Bradley Beal trump card. And I don't even know that they would even put him in for Bradley Beal. I don't think that's a no brainer for them. But if and when it comes to it-- let's just say Beal demanded a trade tomorrow- I think MPJ trumps even the #1 pick in the draft".

Marks: "No, You're right. I mean if you were Minnesota right now, would you trade the #1 pick for MPJ. Yeah, I think that I would".

In contrast both Lowe & Marks think it will take Lavert + assets to just land Holiday. And that a Nuggets package would likely be either a) Harris or b) Barton + Bol Bol and protected two picks.
----

Personally, I think that price is too high to make sense for the Nuggets. People seem to forget that Holiday is a) 30 and b) has one year left on his deal. So as good as a fit as Holiday may be, it doesn't make sense to remove all future flexibility for a guy who can walk in a year and is likely on a downward trajectory. ESPECIALLY, if the Nuggets are high on Bol Bol and it seems like they are.

Which makes me think that Holiday either winds up in Brooklyn or Golden State. And personally? I'm hoping it's Brooklyn. Cause fuck GSW being good again AND getting rid of that Wiggens contract (which apparently is suddenly no longer an albatross?).

Bogdan Bogdanovic too. Damn, Bucks really going for it tonight. Letting go of Divincenzo is going to be tough as he's growing into something special. Our whole 2nd team is gone now except Pat.
The Bucks have to know that Giannis is reupping. Otherwise that Jrue trade will be a Brooklyn Nets-esque trade. I like both moves for them though. I’m a big fan of Jrue. Hopefully he re-signs with you guys too.

I think CP3 will be a lot of fun on the suns but I really wish he was going to a title contender!
It was a good move for them. I feel bad for Rubio but CP is a great fit and hopefully it keeps Booker around with them.

I really wonder what happens with Harden. A package with Simmons as the headliner makes the most sense but I don’t see Fertitta wanting to trade with Morey since he’s a petulant child. The Nets can’t possibly have the best trade.

Yeah I truly can’t understand how that trade would work, maybe if they trade Kyrie 😅. I know KD and Harden are good friends because I saw them at a Beyoncé concert together in VIP a few years back.

I read yesterday that Houston wants to try to keep the team together. I’d rather the hornets focus on developing young players then get Westbrook but I could see how that would be OK for the franchise and I know Michael Jordan is a big Russ supporter.

I’d be shocked if they traded Kyrie for Harden. I think it would kill any good will between future FA and the Nets. Signing a max player and almost immediately trading him is not a good look.

I don’t see the market for Russ either. There were so many rumors of the Knicks going after CP or Russ and I didn’t think either was possible unless the Knicks gave up next to nothing for CP or get assets with Russ and neither of those made sense to me.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Rockets start the season with both still on the roster. Unless they get a great offer for Harden.

Giannis is absolutely involved in all these decisions. They were both supposedly on his "list." And giving away all those draft picks is a clear sign Giannis is part of the Bucks future.
This is a hell of a starting 5 we've got now this year. Bench is depleted, but I'm sure there's tons of ring searching vets in FA that will fill it up.

Yea--I don't see any way that Giannis wasn't involved but they really must have assurances that he reups as soon as it's allowed. I think if you guys didn't make any big-ish changes this offseason, he would have potentially walked. I'm really glad for you guys though. I want to see smaller market teams keep their stars. And Jrue is one of the perennially underrated two way players year in and year out. I hope he's a good fit, stays healthy and reups too. I always wanted him on the Knicks but we're in no position to make a move for him.

Side note: Griffin and Presti must be having some sort of sadistic competition to see who can amass more 1sts.
