Tomorrow Comes Today (The Gorillaz Thread)

I don't really care for the extra tracks so I'm glad I went with the standard album.
Yeah, even as much of a Gorillaz fan as I am, I've been telling peeps who ask me that I don't really think the deluxe is worth it unless you're a hardcore fan. I got mine in yesterday and it's a really impressive package and I'm happy to own it but the deluxe tracks definitely feel like "bonus" songs (which should be obvious but some of the Humanz deluxe songs were better than ones on the actual album). I like them alright but I think just the standard 11-track album stands on it's own and I see the deluxe songs as like a bonus EP thing

I got my deluxe last night and enjoyed the first spin but did notice, not knowing where the standard album ended, that the listening experience seemed to end abruptly. Now I see that the second disc is all gravy. Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool.

Here's a cliche but still fun discussion question: who would you like to see brought on for Song Machine Season Two?

I think Yves Tumor would be great, they seem like a perfect match for a Gorillaz collab. As for the legacy artist side of things (such as Robert Smith or Elton John) it would be neat if they could bring on someone like Kate Bush, though not sure how likely that is. Then again if you'd told me last year the next Gorillaz album would have Elton John on it I don't know if I would have believed you

I always think it'd be cool to bring Del back as a bit of fan service, but I don't see it happening anytime soon

Id love to hear a Johnny Marr guitar line cutting though the middle of a Gorillaz track. I think Moses Sumney could add something otherworldly to a track too. A sardonic Jarvis cocker appearance might be fun as well.

Moses Sumney is a good call, and yeah I could totally see Damon getting Johnny Marr as the Season 2 equivalent of the Peter Hook feature... don't think he'll be trying to get Morrissey anytime soon tho 😂

I always miss Del. I wish he'd been a permanent member of the group.

I'd like to see Gorillaz collab with IDLES or Viagra Boys. Sir Paul McCartney? Brian May? Lady Gaga! I bet Billie Eilish could pull off a feature that would stand out...

No not anymore. It’s sad though because peak Morrissey eye rolling his way though sarky lines surrounded by cartoons would be peak Gorillaz. Current old racist prick Morrissey much less so!

On the urban side it’s gotta only be a matter of time before they get stormzy in a tune. Sampha could be a cool collaboration too.
What about that Dave guy a lot of been have been praising? he seems a good candidate for a feature, at least superficially speaking (I don't know anything about him tbh)

I thought about Gaga, she might be a bit too big for them to get (she's a pretty busy woman) but then again she likes doing weird things every now and then so I wouldn't count it out. Paul would be a huge get but I could see it working. I'd be interested to hear IDLES, more punky Gorillaz songs are always a good thing in my book

yeah his album got rave reviews last year. It’s not my mug of chai but I know the hip hop crew this side were salivating over it.

It’s also sad that they were never able to get David Bowie, he was tailor made for a Gorillaz guest spot.
Yeah that's one of the big tragedies, apparently he was supposed to have a feature on Plastic Beach but it never happened. Weirdly enough, Damon's vocals on "The Lost Chord" give me Bowie vibes for some reason, not sure why.
