It was originally released as two separate albums and volume 1 was released as part of the 75th anniversary series while vol 2 hasn’t been reissued in a long time.
Tone Poet yes.

Volume 1 was released as part of the 75th anniversary series, which is why Tone Poet series picked Volume 2. Currently available Volume 1 sounds good, but the consumers pushed for it to be reissued and it looks as if the wish will be granted.

If you want Part 1, you should be able to pick up a cheap original. I think I got mine in near mint condition for $10 about a year ago. Sounds really great too but I’m sure a Tone Poet will be fantastic if they get around to releasing it. I think I may like part 2 better but both are excellent. His playing is in top form.

Been falling even harder into the blue note catalog. There are some artists that are near must buys for me, Henderson, Hancock, Gordon, etc. I have to say the best part of this is realizing just how amazing Shorter is as a composer. I have always been a big Miles fan and loved his compositions on Mile's albums but holy shit his 60's solo blue note run might be the best thing this label has ever put out. I'm am now chasing his whole output, sadly only have etc. and schizophrenia, and I have noticed lots of great grabs of his stuff on here. Any recommendations on places to look or pressings y'all dig?

Shorter has become a favorite of mine. Schizophrenia is the main reason why I signed up for Anthology. You gotta get Speak No Evil, Night Dreamer, Juju, Adam's Apple...haha there are too many good ones. Speak No Evil is a bit tricky to find (I skip any 75th anniversary pressings because I had too many issues with them). Was hoping they would do that as a tone poet or 80th pressing...

I've listened to about 70 Blue Note releases over the last week. My top pick right now is 3 Sounds - Live at the Lighthouse. I've found myself playing it a few times a day over the last week. Interestingly, it's not had a rerelease since 1970.

I think my blue label Night Dreamer has a Van Gelder stamp and it does sound good. I also have a blue label Speak No Evil that sounds good too but no Van Gelder stamp on that one. Those blue labels with Van Gelder stamped in the dead wax are the best bang for buck on many Blue Note titles imo. Even Liberty copies are going to run big money on a lot of Shorter’s titles unfortunately so modern reissues or those blue label issues from the 70’s will be your best bet. Originals are few and far between and cost a fortune. I suppose the MM ones would sound amazing but I haven’t splurged yet and all of them are well over $50 now. Juju supposedly was recorded a little badly but the music is fantastic. I don’t have a vinyl copy of that. I have The Soothsayer too and that’s an awesome album if you like Etc.

Agree with you 100% on those blue labels, especially the Van Gelder ones. They sound pretty good but are starting to creep up in price though since most people can't afford originals or liberties anymore. It's crazy how many different pressings there are of most BN albums. I have to go through stuff like London Jazz Collector every time I pick up a Blue Note record in a store to confirm which pressing it is and which labels are best to look for haha.

I do the same thing unless it’s a deal I can’t pass up. I think I mostly know the label variations now and what to look for. I’ve gotten super lucky on some early Blue Note pressings on EBay too. Right place at the right time.

Yea--anything with VG stamper is an instant buy for me if price is right and it's in good shape. I've lucked out on eBay as well with quite a lot of records but it's becoming harder and harder to do so lately it seems. I got an original stereo press and His Master's Voice pressing of "A Love Supreme" both for $15 shipped once just because it had no playgrade on it and "Coltrain" was spelled incorrectly and it was listed as a bundle. Both arrived in VG+ condition and are excellent play copies haha. Have gotten a lot of great jazz records over the years by sometimes taking gambles on stuff like that or being in the right place at the right time as you said.

Gene Harris is so underrated, and those Blue Notes from the 3 Sounds are often pretty affordable even in early pressings! His ability to swing is just so natural and his improv is loaded with great melodies! I found him quite on accident not realizing that he was part of the 3 Sounds when listening to his Tribute to Count Basie LP, not knowing who he was. Then finding he has a huge back catalogue with the 3 Sounds.

The Music Matters pressings for Wayne Shorter are great, but expensive. But when you see how much even a decent Japanese King pressing is of similar albums you realize it’s not really that bad. A VG+/NM- copy of Speak No Evil, Night Dreamer, & JuJu will cost you about $50-60 shipped. Hell, I just watched a Japanese King pressing of The All Seeing Eye go for $56 and some change plus shipping a week or two ago. Glossy, near mint vinyl though.
Shorter will cost you to collect. Honestly, if you can find the 75th pressings for under $15 or so then I’d say they’d work as a temporary solution. But, in my opinion, Shorter deserves better.
I’m trying to convince myself that a blue label Schizophrenia is okay to have. Watching a few on eBay right now. Just love that classic 60’s label to death.

They very much are! The tunes are very hummable and the band swings together very well. It's looking like a good copy goes for around $15.
Some other recent favorites include Blue Mitchell's Collision in Black and The Ultimate Elvin Jones.
