Yeah, and I just played my copy not long ago and was really impressed! I still am going to buy the 45RPM pressing when it comes back in stock at Acoustic Sounds! I wish Analogue Productions did more Herbie Hancock titles, especially the fusion era! Getting an AP pressing of Secrets, Sunlight or Thrust would be awesome!Absolutely not. Where have you been? I know Australia is in the upside-down but it's not also under a rock. You knew that was a silly question when you asked it.
I want someone to cuddle me now because I’m sad that this Herbie Hancock doesn’t meet my expectations...This isn't one for me, but i know it sucks when even @NathanRicaud is passing on it.
For months Nathan has been like, "i have to maintain my record spending budget to under $10k a month and also budget for the Herbie anthology!"

I honestly thought it was going to be pressed at QRP, mastered by Kevin Gray, just like the Blue Note Anthology Boxset! I was prepared to be like “Yaaaaas, 8 Classics Herbie Hancock ROTM’s in a Boxset! So happy!”
It’s ok though but this is the first time I think I’ve been so hyped for something, only to be so disappointed, especially when it’s a Boxset!
On the flip side, the Sadé Boxset will be an absolute treat to spin! I’m looking very forward to spinning that one when it comes!
OMG YESSSS! I forgot about the record cleaning machine and Rega Exact MM cartridge I wanted to buy!!! I’m totally going to buy one of them soon! I think I’m going to actually get the Pro-Ject Record Cleaning Machine! Only thing is that it’s expensive at AUD$899! I’m gonna buy it very soon though as I barely clean my records - and I’ve got so many audiophile pressings too! So happy now! ♂Cuddle you?! Shouldn't you be happy?!
I would understand being upset about not being able to get something that DOES exist.
But...not spending money on something that DOESN'T even exist (i.e. the box you thought it would be) - you should be thrilled. Money for other things like equipment instead of records, other records, a date night, yummy food, savings!
It sounds to me like you won the day! Also....
This Boxset doesn’t suck in my opinion! It’s a great Boxset with nice selections! The selections just didn’t impress me; I was underwhelmed by them because of my music taste! I’m sure the albums in the Boxset will actually sound magnificent and that many Herbie Hancock fans will really enjoy this one! I’m still just a little bit put off by the albums getting pressed at GZ, even though I know these will sound great!!This isn't one for me, but i know it sucks when even @NathanRicaud is passing on it.

Nah, I’m not purchasing the Boxset! Baby Monster isn’t buying the Boxset for good! I’m still quietly hoping that I can grab Future Shock and Maiden Voyage by themselves for a great price; a bit how like Vinceron is selling some of the titles from the Motown Anthology Boxset on their own for good prices! You're going to talk yourself into ordering this. I can feel it.
I've been doing some more tallying (bit of a mental block on the paper I'm writing so it's a nice distraction). For me Taking Off, Maiden Voyage, Headhunters, The River (which is actually my favourite in the box - Herbie/ Norah combos rule) are pretty much the albums I know and I can pick them up in various forms for about £220. That makes the Future Shock, VSOP, 1+1, The Piano and live about £10 an album.Nah, I’m not purchasing the Boxset! Baby Monster isn’t buying the Boxset for good! Live Under The Sky is from VSOPDon't do it.
Buy the albums you want and you will be happy with.
...and any Herbie collection that doesn't include Inventions & Dimensions or any VSOP material is kidding itself.
I also doubt that he had free reign over every album BUT I stand by my points that these are in-line with the albums he mentioned as having a special significance in his autobiography. The only ones that I am not familiar with are the 1+1, which makes total sense considering its a joint album with Shorter, and The Piano, which is his best selling records in Japan, a country he mentions as being one of his biggest fan bases.People (at least on Reddit) keep thinking Herbie hand selected these albums from everything in this anthology but I’d be willing to be almost anything that they gave him a list of 12 albums they had access to and he chose 8 of them. There no way he chose these out of his entire discography.

The only other album that stands out as him giving it a special mention in his book was Mwandishi, but even then he talks about a specific live performance during that era over the album itself.
I streamed it last night (youtube so not the greatest quality) and I also love it, Sonrisa especially is just stunning! Herbie originally trained as a classical musician and I hear strong hints of that training tied in there.Listened to the Piano this morning via the hi def Qobus version and it's a really, really good. Stripped back, acoustic standards are definitely my bag. Loved it
How would you leave off his work with Miles?
I can see not including Miles in so much as the box set would bloat out of control. I think an anthology of his career as a bandleader is more than worthy, and Miles records would shift the focus away from him. Of course, a well written piece about him will include those formative years and pique any interest in a look back. This is besides the point that the box in and of itself isn't the best reflection of his career as a bandleader; but I, personally, don't see any foul in leaving out Miles. This is the killer for me. I understand HH has a varied career. But seriously. No Miles? Nothing?! Burn a CDR and tape it to the inside of the box or something, jeez.
I've become worryingly interested in this thing as the day has progressed. Massively regretting listening to The Piano this morning.Only just noticed this in the email I got for the VMP Anthology:

"First edition"--does this mean it will get a larger repress later?
I hope they just decide to press more of them as individuals. I would like to grab 2 of these on their own, but I'm not getting the whole set.Only just noticed this in the email I got for the VMP Anthology:

I said it earlier to someone else I believe but if you are digging the albums and think you'll give them somewhat regular spins, go for it. I haven't had any complaints about the quality of the Anthologies I have purchased so far (Zamrock and Blue Note). The BN one in particular really is fantastic. This set seems to have some exclusives in it too which is nice. I think at worst, if you get it and decide you don't listen to it as much as you want, you could likely re-sell and get most of your money back, if not more.I've become worryingly interested in this thing as the day has progressed. I've the BN box and agree. It's ridiculous they've included an album that has just been reissued by someone else though... Or that blue note would sign off on it.I said it earlier to someone else I believe but if you are digging the albums and think you'll give them somewhat regular spins, go for it.
