Fresh Grabs

Can you let me know if your Bossanova sounds off-center at the end of Side 2? Mine does, but I can't tell if it's worth the hassle asking for an exchange.
"Havalina," more or less. Thanks!

I played through the last 3 tracks of side 2 and double checked with headphones just to be certain - everything sounds as it should with my copy on my system. I didn't notice any off-centering. Might be worth trying another copy on your system if you get a chance.

I'll update this later with some pictures, but I spent the morning at the New Meadowlands Flea Market in East Rutherford, NJ digging through boxes of really great stuff. Wound up with near 50 records, paying less than $90 for all. Everything in at least VG+ condition media wise, G+ on the sleeves. Some highlights:
  • 1965 Mono Pressing of Bob Dylan S/T in NM condition
  • OG pressing of "Legrand Jazz"
  • OG pressing of DSOTM on Harvest
  • OG American Beauty
  • RVG Stamped copy of Oliver Nelson's "Blues and the Abstract Truth" (no cover, but original black/orange Impulse labels)
  • RVG Stamped "California Dreaming" by Wes Montgomery
  • OG Procol Harum
  • OG Aerosmith S/T
  • OG Ellington Indigos
  • Unopened OG Mono copy of Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits
  • OG pressing of "Something Cool" by June Christy
  • Several mint copies of original Sinatra albums
  • Bruce Springsteen Bootleg: Bruce Springsteen Raises Cain (Roxy 1978 show)
  • Japanese pressing of "Coleman Hawkins Encounters Ben Webster"
Needless to say, I think I did pretty good.

New arrivals this week:

A couple of Chicago rap classics

IMG_0406.jpg
Some more early-2000s rap to fill out holes in the collection. Was buying most of these albums on CDs at the time. Didn't start collecting records until the mid-2000s, and even then, it was mostly funk & soul and some 90s rap, but not newly released rap albums.

Some more funk & soul 45s. Had taken a little break from searching out 45s before this year, but been really getting back into it lately. Darrow Fletcher (Chicago guy) and Mitty Collier are 2 of my favorite singers from this era.

Some fresh grabs from the week.

Composers Workshop Ensemble - S/T (Strata-East, 1973 First US Pressing)
Freddie Hubbard - The Night Of The Cookers - Live At Club La Marchal, Volume 2 (Blue Note, 1966 First Mono Pressing)

A couple of jazz beauties. This is my first OG Strata-East record, I have been after one for years as the music tends to be fantastic, but they sell for silly money. Luckily I was able to get this at a reasonable price. The Blue Note is a real surprise. I put an offer in way under the asking price, which was accepted, and when it arrived its in the best condition it could possibly be in. I was convinced it was a reissue but all the correct signs are there for it to be an OG (mono, 'P', Van Gelder etc). Really is a top find.......now I need to find the first volume!.

Charlie Parker - Jazz At Midnite (Blue Note, 2020 RSD Limited Pressing)
Ron Carter - Foursight - Stockholm (In+Out Records, 2020 RSD Limited Signed Pressing)
Gene Russell - New Direction (Real Gone Music, 2020 RSD Limited Pressing)

The last chunk of Record Store Day items from their August drop. I am especially excited for the Ron Carter and can't wait to spin it!

Sarah Vaughan ‎– Vaughan And Violins (Mercury/Memoir, 1976 UK Pressing)
The Roots Of Modern Jazz - S/T (Olympic Records, 1974 UK Pressing)
Footprints: The Life and Work of Wayne Shorter by Michelle Mercer

A couple of cheapo pick ups from Wednesday's car boot sale. Nothing too hot there this week, but I have heard very little Sarah Vaughan's music so was happy to find her 'Vaughan And Violins' for 50p. I also picked up this interesting compilation from the same seller (another 50p bargain) which caught my eye as it had a Yusef Lateef track (unusual for these comps). An ex-library copy of Wayne Shorters biography popped up on ebay for a few quid, and I also added some cheap record cards from amazon.

Received this from dodax yesterday, glad I didn't buy one of the very expensive copies few months ago.

Run the Jewels 3 on gold vinyl :)

How is the sound quality on the reissue? Any better than the original? (And is the new copy also pressed by Rainbo or someone else? The Discogs page for the reissue and the original are almost *exactly* the same, which I found a bit hard to believe....)

Did anybody else receive the 2 new Kikaguko Moyo reissues? Mine just came this week and Stone Flowers sounds AWFUL. Like worst record it my collection BAD.
They sent me a new Mammatus as mine went completely to shit halfway through side a. Then I cleaned it about 5 times and now it's cool. Haven't checked stone garden yet

What’s the U2 atomic mix?

Sounds very good to me, but not as fantastic as RTJ1 clear and RTJ3 teal. I'm not sure how the original sounds. The Runout says RJ Sterling. Also "Jewel Runners never give up".

Most of my grabs from the past couple of months (I’m too lazy to go fetch a live Judas Priest record from my basement man cave). First some usual 2020 suspects, PJ Harvey reissues and Fionas:

Next my rewards for being first in line on RSD, plus anexcellent live Bowie via Discogs:

A few more grabs from my local, plus a cheap Errol Garner via Discogs. This Miles session blew me away:

My second-to-last VMP batch, the super cheap Laura Marling deal from Amazon, and that wonderful Neil Young from my local shop:

Last but not least, big thanks to @wynn72 for hooking me up with this beauty:

Bill Evans - Complete Riverside Recordings (18xLP Boxset)

I have a local shop near me that specializes in jazz. I was told this boxset came out of a private collection (it's near mint, except for a corner ding to the box).

Anyways, it also looks to be signed by one of the founders of Riverside Records, Orrin Keepnews. I need to look into this more, but there is a signature in an odd place in the booklet, and looks to be blue ballpoint pen, not a reproduction. The signature is written sideways and matches up with the one image I could find for Orrin's signature (see image below). If it's legit, that'd be something special (and unexpected). I'm not sure if they were all signed, but apparently 5000 copies of this boxset were released in 1985.

Only Google image of Orrin's I could find.

Oh cool! The sound of the original, pressed by Rainbo, is... fine. Like, it's kinda noisy and the vocals are pretty quiet in relation to the bass and instrumentals, but it's sounds okay on a decent system. But if the reissue sounds like the clear/teal of the previous two, maybe I'll pick up it and give it a shot!
