Jazz

Music Direct told me that any MoFi on there that says “awaiting repress” or “out of stock” will actually be fulfilled if you order it. It may take a few months but you will actually get the album. They also hold all copies until everything in your order ships. But I just got two awaiting repress/OOS items shipped to me last week.
Do you know in Music Direct charges right away, or when items ship?

There are some interesting Jazz titles for sale at Pure Pleasure. I've not heard any of the albums properly but there are some good line ups, just ordered a few; Coleman Hawkins, Stan Levy and Harold Brookmeyer. I feel I should have ordered the Tubby Hayes as well.

Out of curiosity, has anyone in the US received the Nubya Garcia splatter version of Source yet?
There was never any updates, and I still haven't received anything.

Anyone have an idea which pressing this is? It says 2014 Sony Legacy but the description states that its Mono and Numbered. The only one around that date was the 2013 RSD one but discogs has that under Columbia not Sony Legacy. I think the odds of it being the RSD are slim but I went ahead and ordered it to see, I was curious if there was another reissue I am missing.

Decent chances with an official Amazon listing. With any 3rd party, it is often a total crapshoot, but with Amazon, it will likely be the Sony Legacy and potentially be the Mono (the ASIN # matches) -- but slim chance on the RSD.

I didn't see any Legacy reissues in that timeframe. Or are you saying its likely the un-numbered version that was referenced earlier?

I probably wasn't that clear -- The ASIN # is just the way that Amazon catalogs and they don't tend to update for RSD (ymmv) but it usually is fairly consistent in what product they ship -- even if all of the other information is pretty wrong. They seem to aggregate comment for all products the match on "name" and ship on the ASIN. This is why you get such a hodgepodge of reviews on products and I wouldn't recommend basing a purchase on anything in the comments or description. I've never figured out a way to check it against the comments -- but the codes are pretty solid

For Kind of Blue, this might be made more complex due to MOV pressings in the UK and Sony Legacy being the official label -- but it you back into the product ID (Barcode equivalent) you can get to this:

Edit: The UPC lookback gets you here... https://www.upcitemdb.com/upc/888837610315

Which would seem to confirm that it at the very least is a record

other points that might be helpful or just noise:
a whole bunch of noise at Hoffman

Some of you may be able to tell that I'm on a soul crushing conference call.

thanks for this info. I am hoping its the unnumbered Legacy Mono which seems to be the most likely case, so we will see. You guys weren't kidding about shopping for KOB to be a nightmare haha!

Is anybody else disappointed the "Heavy Black Swirl" of Gene Russell's RSD release does not match the rest of the Black Jazz Heavy Black Swirl variants? It sounds excellent, but I thought it would have matched the style of the others better. Maybe Real Gone will do one to match in an edition of 100 later. IMG_3005.jpeg

I was surprised about that as well but not too bothered by it since it’s all in that black:grey:white:clear. Also makes sense that the Gene Russell is distinctive given the RSD connection and number of copies produced.

I slept on ordering Maiden Voyage and now it’s sold out!

Just got 4 BlueNote80 titles delivered and all four are severely warped! 😖😠

None of them are scratched though so I’m just going to get them flattened at my local! Three of them are really nasty so I hope my local can still manage to flatten them! 🤞

I’m going to only stick to Blue Note Tone Poet as they are consistent. BlueNote80 is too inconsistent and lack quality control. At least half of the 25 titles I’ve got from them have been badly warped! 🙄

This album may be more experimental than jazz but I love it — been listening to it constantly since its release last Friday. I love the mood, the tones, the textures, the instrumentation and the sound of the recording. I hear something new every time I play it.

Debating on vinyl vs digital since the vinyl isn’t affordable or readily available in the US.

Great pickup for our overseas friends into jazz that pushes boundaries — check it out.

F@ck me with a chain saw. They want $54cdn to ship a $27cdn record. Thats insane.
