Vinyl Me Please Essentials

LOL, I do. I want that 4 track tape hiss to sound just as pristine as it did when Bob played it back for the first time. I am weird.
I feel the same way about getting the ORG There's a Riot Goin' On. I wanted to hear the murkiness and degradation from 46 overdubs as well as I can. At least I got it at list price.

Yeah, there are also some early Sonic Youth albums that ORG repressed that are on my want list also.
Yeah I am guilty of seeking those out. I have had eBay searches of them for a long time and got good prices on the colored version of EVOL and I think black of Sister, but the EVOL is quite dished and Sister is super noisy without any scratches. They sound great otherwise, but I usually have much better luck than that buying used. I am pretty happy with whatever other standard reissue of Daydream Nation I have.

Do people who listen to GBV even care about fidelity? I've heard tracks that change sound quality in the middle of the track before.

As long as the songs are good, I really don't care about the fidelity. Some of the best Robert Pollard songs I ever heard were recorded on four tracks or handheld tape recorders, and some of the worst I have ever heard were done in professional studios.

However, the band that he is working with now, now that Doug is back in the band, is unstoppably great and I think rivals if not exceeds the classic lineup of the '90s.

Now that I have ordered a copy of Vampire On Titus, I only need Universal Truths and I will be the owner of every proper studio album they have a recorded! Just wanted to share that win :)

You have 99 GBV albums? Lordy!

Hey so, just got my De Stijl. This thing sounds like a Limewire rip. I mean credit where credit is due this is probably the first time in 3 years as a member that I can say a ROTM is a bad master but this one sucks.

I've got to go back and listen to mine.. I thought it sounded better than my 2010 version. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They're still in print.

Fair enough.

Wouldn't the same plates then be used for the VMP version?

And perhaps the plates are worn the hell out since they've been stamping since 2010? So a version bought in 2010-2015 would be superior?

Mcgruffed that bitch! 😁

No, different master. Run outs are totally different. No idea why but... reasons....

You'd think so, but per discogs, they are not from the same lacquer.

I'm not an expert on large scale vinyl manufacturing, but I believe there are established ways to make 10 thousand or so records from the same lacquer.

I think they make a father off of the lacquer and then make mothers from the father. Then they make stampers from the mothers and each stamper can press like 1000 or so.

If anyone knows better than that and can correct me, please do.
