Pre-Order Thread

Totally missed this announcement. Not sure if anyone else on here cares about The Drones. This one actually isn't too hard to get already, but I really hope this means the rest of the catalogue is coming soon because they are $$$$$.

I LOVE TFS, but have only dabbled in listening to The Drones

I'd be surprised if you didn't like them considering you love TFS. Give it a go. The only vinyl I have is the last one Feelin' Kinda Free, because that's when I discovered them. I was planning on picking up the others but most of them went out of print not too long after that one came out.

I really want a reissue of Wait Long By The River... but all the albums are good. I need to spend more time with the rest before I decide which ones I need if all the reissues will be this expensive (optimistically assuming more are coming).

I definitely felt that what I've heard sounds pretty similar to TFS, so I can't imagine I wouldn't like The Drones

For the other 2 XTC fans of the forum...

The sleeve has been re-worked to present the front colour image in all its psychedelic glory - and expanded to a gatefold to accommodate both the weight of the vinyl & the inclusion of song lyrics.

did some research and learned my old PS3 i use as my Blu-ray player can play SACD through HDMI.

Nice. My old Oppo can, but I recently changed it out with a region free 4K LG that can't. Luckily I don't have that many SACD's, but I thought I checked this before making the purchase.

I have an old Marantz DVD player hooked up to my system that can also play SACD, but I have no video out set up on that. Need to get some small monitor that can do RCA video in or something....or a longer cable to my TV

Nice, was wondering what album was next.

Man, the capabilities of that LG player seem too good to be true! Have you found good reviews for it?

I saw some decent reviews of that model on other sites, but wanted one with all the region free stuff.

I don't yet have any region free blu rays to try out, but Arrow Video is a pretty good company that releases stuff in the UK that isn't licensed here in the US. I thought that spending a bit more on this would increase the value.

I don't yet own a 4K TV either. I was saving for one...then Covid hit and it seemed to not really be the time for buying a new TV. But I also wanted a player with HDR, HDR10, Dolby Vision just to cover my bases on when I do buy a TV.

This model, UBKM9, is the Wal-Mart exclusive model. Basically the same as the LG UBK90, but the model # change keeps retailers from doing having to accept price-matching.

All the region free stuff is after-market changes.

I was about to go all in on a region free player years ago then 4k got announced and when they started coming out in 2016 I found out they were all going to be 100% region free and then started seeing other companies start releasing the few region b blu-rays I wanted so I ended up just skipping it. At this point there's very few movies left that haven't gotten region a releases that I really wanted. Would still be kind of nice to have but there importance has greatly decreased over the last few years imo.

Idk if you're much of a Horror fan but it's been amazing what some of these smaller boutique distributors have been putting out in 4k lately like Suspiria, Maniac, Zombie etc. It's finally starting to hit it's stride lately so it's a perfect time to jump into the 4k world. If you have a solid sound setup some of the atmos mixes have been just as big or a bigger upgrade then the video as well. It's crazy to start seeing the roll out of the 8k tvs already this year

Oh...I am. And that's one of the reasons I wanted to move to 4K.

Also see this thread...

2nd Annual will be coming in only a few months.

I know it was posted earlier about the first three Elbow albums being re-issued. It also looks like Dead In The Boot and The Take Off And Landing of Everything are getting a re-press on the same day.

There was a blurb on The Sound of Vinyl of how this means that the entire Elbow catalog will be available on vinyl but I can't find Build a Rocket Boys available anywhere (the only one I will need after these two.)

Is there a previous Electric Warrior MoFi though? My guess is that since Rhino did the 33 of it AAA mastered by Kevin Gray they did this at 45 to differentiate.
I "think" that the licensing also has to do with what they are allowed to issue. I'll try to dig up where I read that, but if I remember correctly it was one of the big changes for AP, MoFi, etc if that often they would only be allowed to issue 45 so that it didn't compete with the main line reissues

Edit: *challenge

good to hear. I stated earlier that they only have one album and we're comparing them to other artists with a few records (and tours) under their belts which can certainly allow for growth and expansion. I'm not necessarily knocking Black Pumas for being who they are, I just sometimes find myself wondering what my disconnect is from something that others are truly enamored with. but like with so many artists I just chalk it up to that it's just my opinion.
I’ll say that I knew of them from folks on here and got the album and i liked it but didn’t LOVE it for some of the reasons people here have said. Then in January, my fiancée had to go to Dallas for work and I tagged along at the end of the week for a 3 day weekend. She had looked up record stores and we decided to go to Josie records. Her nickname growing up was Josie so she wanted to get a T-shirt. We showed up and there was randomly a giant poster saying BLACK PUMAS IN-STORE PERFORMANCE TODAY! So we looked around the store for an hour or so and then the band came in. Before the performance Eric came around and shook literally everybody’s hand and talked to them for a minute. He even sat down with some kids there on the floor to talk to them and thank them for coming. Then they played 4-5 songs and blew me away. The live performance really enhances the songs. I left being a bigger fan of them and found myself recommending them to more people.

I thought I saw it when I ordered, but I can’t find it either. The only place I see it was an option is the official Elbow website, but it’s sold out.

Does MoFi even do 33rpm any more? I think they are milking the extra profits that the 2xLPs bring them. I'd rather it were 33 for the cost to quality ratio personally.

I know I’m a little late on this convo, but one reason they also might do this is that oddly enough, you can license a 2x45 separately from a single LP. Seems weird, but I remember Shane from Intervention Records explaining this is why he did the Judee Sill records in 45 even though they were short (4MWB has the single LP licenses). So, for example, Mofi probably can’t do a single LP for Raising Hell since VMP has those rights currently.
