Magnolia Record Club

Didn't they do the newest Needtobreathe acoustic album? Weird, considering they're a Christian band. A rather good one tho
Yeah, I got the feeling from that album that this is not necessarily the case anymore. The album last month, Pep Talks by Jonah and the Lion, was from a former CCM Band too.

Drew Holcomb, the founder of the club and former only curator, is Christian.

Drew's wife, Ellie is just known as a Christian singer

Drew also curates the Moon River Music Festival in Chatanooga (which is a great festival, somewhat small, intimate family vibe). The lineups and club picks tend to have a ton of cross over. Drew’s picks seem to lean towards new albums his buddies are putting out. It explains the christian leanings since that’s the world he exists in. He’s toured over the years with Switchfoot, Judah + the Lion, Needtobreathe, Colony House, etc

I dipped into Magnolia for a three month stint. I like Shovels & Rope well enough but I swapped the last two months for Chris Stapleton and Lee Ann Womack. I like country and americana for the most part, just maybe not the brand they’re selling.
whereas they have about the only country/Americana I like

Since War and Treaty was an Artist Discovery, thought I would put this here. Pretty cool story and had no idea about the girl being in sister act 2. They also just got signed to Rounder Records, that is quickly becoming my favorite artist roster.

I think they could pick more obscure artists than they do sometimes. I think especially lately though with the ROTM, they are going with what gets them subscribers.

One thing I'd love to see from them is more Classic picks. With the exception of Storf getting some through, VMP isnt big on Country and even when they do they are mostly new releases or exclusives or an exclusive of a wider release reissue (The Loretta albums are a notable and welcome exception). Magnolia is also almost exclusively new releases
I love the country/americana/folk genre but alot of older albums havent been pressed in awhile or ever and I wish Magnolia would integrate this more into their sub or do it as a separate add on since it seems like Vinyl Me Pardner is essentially dead.

Ah, glad to see someone else who feels this way, I agree totally!

Anyone know of any discount codes that are active in their shop atm? Missed out on the memorial day one unfrotunately, wanting to pick up their version of the new Gregory Alan Isakov album.

I mean, are any of their choices really less than obscure? I think this might be a direct result of us being incredible music geeks.
