Pre-Order Thread

Avett’s are definitely overpriced. I actually only buy their stuff if I find a deal now. Which is easier considering the fact that I haven’t liked the last two albums very much.
True Sadness had some pretty decent stuff on it but overall wasn't great. the last one to me was a complete dud, but I only listened to it once or twice streaming... there was no way that I was looking to spend $40+ for it on vinyl. that said it's not too often they do color presses, so that and the fact it's in The Gleam series got me to bite.
I've been the same with the last couple because they usually end up on sale. The first single for the gleam 3 sounds like they're back in their roots though
agreed. I like the first single more than just about anything on the last two albums, though 'No Hard Feelings" is truly a special song.
No you are absolutely right. All of their releases are expensive now. I've complained about them before but like a sucker I'm back in everytime. Part of the reason is all of their LP's are two discs which would make you think high quality, which is also not the case.
this too. their vinyl presses are usually subpar, but yet I usually keep buying them.

The biggest deterrent with this set would be if you already own these titles. If you don't have any of them, it feels like a pretty solid purchase.
I don’t own any of them, so I pulled the trigger. I’ve been wanting Madvillany on vinyl for a while, I just hope it’s a decent pressing. And, FWIW, I’ve never heard either J Dilla or Jaylib, so I can’t wait!

Donuts is incredible. and Champion Sound is such a banger, but may not be everyone's cup of tea. the only issue with it is that some of the original samples on it have been changed which kind of ruins the listen for me, but being that you never heard it before it shouldn't really be an issue.

Rainbo did a lot of Stones Throw stuff in the past, so hopefully the pressings are an improvement.

Two songs had samples changed totaling about 5 minutes of music. It ruins the listen of the other 45+ minutes?

kind of. it definitely ruins the songs that had their samples changed for me. "The Red" is my favorite song on the album, particularly for the beat which is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, Dilla beats ever. "No Games" is also one of my favorites on the album, and for that one I have no idea what the issue is because Doom's "One Beer" has never been changed. the replacement beats for these simply do not compare at all to the original that I played to death and is tattooed in my brain, so hearing the changes is really jarring and off putting to me.

but yeah, the rest is unchanged and obviously is completely listenable... but I personally wouldn't buy the version with the changed samples.

Theres a new boxset from lloyd cole covering his first three albums plus 1lp b-sides, 1lp demos and 1lp rarities

The gleam series are unique in that it's just the Avetts and Bob doing acoustic. This isn't necessarily an indication they are going back to the days of Emotionalism.

Yea, I get that for the song. Especially when it's ingrained to be heard one way. And the original is so much more soulful. I was listening to it contemporary to when it came out, so I get it.

According to my hacker-level internetin' skills (i.e. Wikipedia):

There's a Jaylib track called ‘The Red’ they got sued for. Cris Williamson is the artist and she’s a total feminist, a real woman-power type. In that song Madlib says "mostly shitty women". She said, 'I’m not having that, take it off the album.' But she’s still letting them use the instrumental for licensing and so on. So even there they’ve worked something out"

Went to go order The Blue Version of the III Gleam at Barnes and Noble online and it is sold out. I don't believe I have ever seen a preorder sell out at Barnes and Noble. Surely there will be some available closer to street date.
