Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Hey so I'll just suggest that if you want to continue a politics only discussion (devoid of connection to VMP) maybe head towards the politics page.

But I think these discussions are important and bleed into every aspect of life, so I'm not really comfortable moving posts or forcing anyone to keep quiet about this right now.

I dont think that racism is a political issue.

Their greatest mistake wasn’t changing customer service policy, moving platform or closing the forum. Getting rid of the awful poems on the back of the art prints was their greatest mistake. They made everything else in the package appear high in quality. Here’s two you can write on the back of the last two Essentials albums of the month for you completists. I do requests

Bella Donna - Stevie Nicks by Murfocakes

on a break from Lyndsey Buckingham
the spiteful nasty little man
pens perfect poems leather and lace
more than just a pretty face
stand back and bootylicious too
and the one Tom Petty did with you
Stevie your music hasn’t dated
your cover we have pixelated

The Stooges (Cale Mix) - The Stooges by Murfocakes

There was a young man called Ig
Who’s band wanted to get really big
They were produced by John Cale
Who ramped up his wail
But the record execs didn’t give a fig

I thank you...

I need one for Torres and Funkdafied

May I suggest that people may be getting derailed by a meta-discussion about where the discussion should happen? Make your points, respond to what you need to respond to. The discussion will naturally dissipate, move, or evolve. Sniping at each other about optimal venues definitely doesn't get anybody anywhere. If you wanna have the discussion here, just...y'know. Continue to have it here.

Hey team. I hope this doesn't stir the pot or anything, I certainly don't mean it to, but it seems like tensions are getting a bit high on this thread (for the obviously right reasons) but perhaps being aimed at individuals who are not deserving of it. What's happening at the moment is awful, and of course we should speak up about it and act, but there's no need for this anger to be aimed at people on this forum. I'm pretty sure we all agree that what is happening right now is horrible and not acceptable at all, and I haven't seen anything here today that proved that point to be wrong. Again, perhaps it's not my place to say these things, but I personally am grateful for all you guys on here and would hate to think people are feeling upset because of this. Much love.

I’m enjoying these posts and conversations about VMP staying silent on! @jaycee - you literally hit the nail on the head when you said

“The unwillingness to take on these types of minor burdens by parts of our society is part of the reason we find ourselves where we our today.”

Like, I love VMP so much but it’s upsetting me about how silent they’ve been! It’s wrong. And remember how quick they were to respond to that pressing plant burning down, by sending a message to everyone about how it will affect them!

I want them to make a statement and talk about this issue because like @Teeeee first said, the Classics and Rap & Hip-Hop ROTM tracks simply would not exist if it wasn’t for Black musicians. VMP literally would not be where they are today if it wasn’t for the art Black Americans make!

I am like teeeee and am unapologetic about this conversation going on here. I couldn’t give two fucks if people are going 🙄 because of us discussing this topic. We need change! VMP are liked to be seen as left-wing mentally and the most frustrating thing is that they have like 30,000 subscribers and are just keeping silent! They have to speak up!

Here’s Sprinter by Torres by Murfocakes

I will arise and go now, and buy for 81p,
An album by Torres is there, of warped plastics made;
Nine hundred copies on Discogs site exist there, a Cheap copy waits for me,
And in warehouse we regret too many copies made.

And I shall have some cheap copies there, for sales came dropping slow,
Dropping though predicted Torres would sell more;
And never shall I swap for it for cheap copies I do know,
And certainly never pay full price in dollars, thirty four.

I don’t blame VMP for staying silent. These protests may have started peacefully but have gotten increasingly violent. Stores are being burned and looted Cops are being hit with bottles and rocks . At this point it’s only a matter of time before we all witness cops being gunned down on a city street on live TV. At the end of the day they’re just a business and any stance they take will cost them customers.

Being on the right side of justice is more important than customers. And in times as big as this, people remember.

Ha! I can't even give it away as a PIF.

Also, I want to quickly add, me and a few friends talked about this issue last night. Protests in Melbourne, Australia on the Black Lives Matter/George Floyd are occurring and I think that was a great thing!

But you know what we all said and thought!?

Aboriginal people in Australia are treated so poorly by the population, let alone police. Police brutality against Aboriginal people are so high and if you’re Aboriginal, you’re nearly 30x more likely to end up in prison. If you are aboriginal and steal, there’s a high chance you will end up in prison. If you are not aboriginal and steal, you will never end up in prison.

A lot of companies profit from Aboriginal art, but they always are trying to help Aboriginal communities! They will always remind us all they we are standing on Aboriginal land and that we must respect the “elders”.

So, that’s also why I feel like VMP can’t stay silent! They benefit so much on Black people’s art’ Like now that this police brutality on black people is the topic which is at the forefront on the news and is becoming revolutionary, VMP need to speak up! They need to be a role model to all the thousands of subscribers they have and touch people’s hearts!

Justice ? There are “woke” white people out here throwing bottles and rocks at black and Latino females but it’s okay because they’re wearing a police uniform. this level of violence on both sides is unacceptable.

Wait, this is about VMP not saying anything on the current situation? AFAIK 99% of companies haven't said anything.
But VMP benefit so much from Black people’s art! This is why it’s outrageous they are staying silent! They need to show how caring they are, and give back! Imagine how happy so much Americans would be if VMP didn’t stay silent on this! Look at Bratz, how proud so many people would be with their statement!

It’s just wild what’s going on but I have this glimpse of hope changes will actually occur in the police force and positive changes will follow in relation to police brutality/black lives. So we need the push. And some of us are just expressing the frustration!

@Kyuuji - I’m so happy and proud you emailed VMP about this and asked if they are releasing a statement/acting upon the situation! 👏👏👏
