Vinyl Me Please Classics

True I guess I meant reggae specifically. It’s been a long time, Silvetones was what, two years ago? Would also love another African music pick in the vein of some one like Mulatu Astatke or Ali Farka Toure.
I would be so on board for this. Side note, I grabbed the Trojan Records box set last year and it's fantastic. If you don't already have half the albums on it check it out.

Various - This Is Trojan

Sick! I might have to pick this up, thanks for the recommendation! Only reggae albums I have are two Bob Marley’s and The Silvertones lol. Been trying to get more into that side of music recently and have been really enjoying Dennis Brown, I found its been really nice to help cope with isolation 😂

Honestly mate, I have some Upsetters, Dekker, Toots etc, but this comp has almost all their hits and a tonne more (including Dennis Brown). Check it out online first as it definitely has some stranger stuff too but I love it and in terms of sound quality it's actually pretty decent considering most of these older reggae albums have pretty rough masters. Definitely one of my favorite buys of the last couple years.

Also Israelites (the opening track) is literally one of the best songs ever written (come at me hyperbole) and everyone should have it in their collection and as soon as it gets warm here I'm going to play it in isolation in my backyard on repeat for like... weeks on end while I dance around in Hunter S Thompson-esque shorts under the sun BECAUSE THAT IS HOW I ROLL

Okay I've been drinking, I'm gonna need you to give me a track listing for what you assumed Bonerjamz consisted of.
That makes 4 of us then... Lets see, a cover of No Diggity by LFO is on there. Lets get it on covered by Paris Hilton. Ed Sheeran delivers a more hardcore version of Me So Horny. $40 VMP sclusie

HOLY FUCK AN LFO REFERENCE
You add in Third Eye Blind with guest appearance by The New Radicals covering Pony by Ginuwine and I'll buy the whole run.

When the F*CK are we gonna get another reggae or world music ROTM for classics or essential? We’re long overdue man

I am with you here 100%!!!!

Jorge Ben last July for Essentials. Celia y Johnny last October. It hasn't been that long imo.

VMP has very few actual reggae releases:

Lee Scratch Perry - Super Ape

Upsetters - Eastwood Rides Again

The Silvertones - Silver Bullets

Desmond Dekker - You Can Get It If You Really Want

Desmond Dekker - Action!

Toots & The Maytals - Sweet & Dandy

Madlib - 420 (In the genre of reggae but Madlib, as we know, is not a reggae artist)

There are some other releases that have some elements/influences but are not reggae.

I'd love to chat reggae with anyone on here! I've been in a band since I was 19 that plays reggae rock with island influences. Super deep into Jamacian, Island, International and Pop/White Boy reggae. Let's chat, and brainstorm some possible VMP ideas!

My off the cuff ideas for VMP for a reggae ROTM or just exclusive:

Steel Pulse, Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh, Black Uhuru, Half Pint, any of the Banton bros, Inner Circle, etc! Really glad they did their Toots exclusive - my all time favorite VMP release.

Ok, enough about that. I could go on forever. Later!

Yeah agree. The thing is storf said reggae doesn't qualify for Classics track picks (but salsa does for some reason?) so we can only get it as an Essentials pick. Hopefully we get another good reggae pick under Essentials soon, it has been way too long for that.

So, fire some reason, I immediately tried to swap Otis. Not really sure why, because I e always sort of liked him. The record came today even though I checked yesterday and it wasn’t even marked as shipped. I friggin love this album! Sounds great and this type of album is a why I subscribed in the first place. Very happy tonight. Good news after some potentially bad virus news for my family. Really looking forward to next month.

I cant believe I missed out on that Toots exclusive. I cant find a copy anywhere. Thats my biggest miss of all time with VMP.

$100 on Discogs.. a pretty penny for sure
Yeah It’s great too. I am surprised no one else has wanted to reissue that it is a top notch release. It is why everyone should also grab the recent Willie Nelson and Loretta’s Fist City. It’s the first time either have ever been repressed for some reason and currently are the only reissues of each that exist.

I gotta stop hanging out with you guys... Just ordered the Willie, Loretta, and Pet Sounds with my 20% off that expires on the 26th.

Thank you!
