What's Spinning

So, I’m done working for the day. I’ve done my chores. I’ve got dinner working... what to do what to do? Oh... yeah, I’ve got a bunch of records that aren’t even out yet!

so, I really liked the first album but wondered about how much the various collaborations colored it as I’ve been underwhelmed by both of their solo work. Together, they’re pretty damn fine. (Still could use a heavy dash of Thile though 😉)

Giving this a first spin. I’m going into this a little cautious. Their last album - Sharing the Covers - was a lot of fun, but it was covers. The two albums before that - Autumn and Tightrope - were nice. A little too nice, mellow, ultimately uninspired. This is the last album with Chandler Holt, one of the original trio and the banjo player. It also has drums which is odd for bluegrass but then they’ve always been a bit of an alt rock band with bluegrass instruments for a while now. I was afraid this was gonna be some Mumford and Sons style transformation which is just scary. Anyhow, it’s alright so far, certainly better than their last two originals outings, but not what they are live (Which also seems a bit up in the air right now too) or what they were for the first five albums. Hopefully, it’s a bit of a grower.

Two more things...
1. The last song on side 1 “The Eagle and the Boy” has a very Townes Van Zandt feel to it.
2. Very nice heavy duty stoughton tip on jacket.

The agutierrezb 2019 record collection challenge

So I've decided to embark on my own personal challenge, which consists of listening every record in my collection before the end of the year. My record collection is not that big -only ~250-, but I still feel like there are a bunch of records I don't give enough attention to, while still adding more titles to my shelves.

For this reason I've set a couple of rules in order to play every record at least once before December 31st: I'll play at least one record a day, going from front to back in the way I have them sorted in my shelf. I can play a different record (i.e. Not the next one in alphabetical order) if I feel like listening to something else in any given moment, but at least one of the records I spin in the day has to be the LP in turn.

I didn't take pictures for the first two days, but I'll try to document the process from here on, so I'll be posting daily on this thread. Wish me luck!
