Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

At checkout it gave the option to have it included in your next ROTM box or have it shipped separately "right away". I'm not any more worried about it than I am getting other records I have ordered in the past haha.
Fiona had that option too. I wouldn't put too much stock in that promise given that no one's Fiona seems to have shipped yet.

The VMP sounds okay. My copy had a lot of non-fill (Gz has gotten better, but they used to be awful)

Just one point to note here, the weight of the vinyl (180g or otherwise) does not impact sound quality. In theory, the thicker records are supposed to be less prone to warping, but there's nothing inherently "better" about thicker records in terms of sound quality.
Ahhhhhhh that’s good to know! I always thought 180g meant a little bit improved sound quality, because it gives better tracking for the needle.

What is non-fill? That’s a term I see here but I don’t actually understand what that means? Like a non-full creates a locked groove or something?

Would this surprise anyone:

Non-fill: This is What "Non-Fill" Looks Like

180g doesn't mean much these days. It has *potential* to sound better, because it has *potential* to have the grooves cut deeper.
But since it's become an effective marketing term, it just means they used 40g of extra material. You can press shallow grooves and a bad master into 180g vinyl just fine. I have old super thin vintage vinyl that sounds great too.

Even if they don't sound better, I like them so much more than standard weight. The heft just feels like quality to me.

Or, to put it another way, I'm a pan pizza guy.

I can’t afford the Analogue Productions copy. It’s just too expensive when then international shipping comes into play + conversion rate from AUD dollars. And there’s so many other audiophile releases I want more, like curtis Mayfield’s MoFi Superfly release!

Are there dealers in Australia that import them? I buy them off a dealer in the UK and they’re a bit above the direct conversion from US but not outrageous and I don’t have to pay for shipping from the US.

I hear that, just wanted to give some info in case it changed your mind - though I didn't see you were in AU; so that makes a big difference too!

I have this. It's excellent and well worth the money.

It really is. MoFi has been putting out some really nice titles this past year. Can't wait for Blues for Allah to ship. And Santana's Supernatural next year is a MUST have.

Yeah, the 180g stuff is mostly marketing gimmick to upcharge (I mean, there is add material costs, but not to the extent that they're charging). But I don't have anything against it either. And for an audiophile label it does make sense to go with the more premium compound in your records to reduce instances of warping and requiring you to replace/refund.

As far as non-fill, it's a pressing defect where the vinyl compound does not spread evenly/fully in the stamper and thus results in an incompletely formed groove. What you'll hear is a "whooshing" sound, usually once per revolution of the record. And the better your gear, the worse the defect sounds.

I did NOT know MoFi was doing Supernatural. I will gladly double up on album I already have for that one.
Yeah! I already have Curtis Mayfield’s Superfly, but I really want to get the MoFi one because I just know it will sound incredible! And it’s one of my favourite albums of the 70’s for sure! 💎

Yup, was in MusicDirect's 2020 catalog.

I was surprised, because there had been rumors of Sony putting an end to 3rd party licensing. But that appears to not be the case. In fact, I'm lobbying MoFi right now to do an RCA/Sony title that is dear to me.

Is there a list of future Mofi releases floating around somewhere? I only knew about the Blues For Allah and In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida

Blues for Allah and Iron Butterfly are both coming soon. Mars Hotel has shipped already so Blues for Allah is hopefully right behind.

For One-Steps, I think next up is Ah Um Mingus. There's another Stevie Ray Vaughn coming and Blood Sweat & Tears.

Then Supernatural and DMC's Raisin Hell were the other big names. I can't recall the rest off the top of my head but can check when I get home tonight

Alright.. thanks! Is it an actual physical catalog that they send out to people?

At this point, I am expecting a single non-member who was able to order by mistake getting all 500 copies.

You know that scene in the Tim Allen movie The Santa Clause, where the postal worker brings all the naughty/nice lists? Yeah, some dude is about to be super woozy with his house filled with albums.

But let's lower the bar. Wouldn't want to be so harsh on such a small company! I'm okay with anything they can deliver me. Even a pizza!

That's the first time I've @'ed Nathan since this forum was created, but all right. No more parts of speech talk.
