Vinyl Me Please Essentials

I thought that wouldn’t have been a hot take because I feel like quite a bit of people feel that way, even though it was critically acclaimed 😜🙊

Like, people were comparing Phoenix’s Essentials ROTM to commercial, crap indie pop bands/music and I disagreed, but could understand the opinions. Like, that wasn’t a hot take for me in my opinion 🤷‍♂️

Hospice is far less known than Phoenix.
And for a lot of people it is an enjoyable listen.
You can call it "boring," but for a lot of people it can also be called "cathartic" or "meditative" or "healing."

Not trying to start shit, I've just noticed that you have very strong opinions.

Just please be mindful that for some people there are certain albums that they have strong opinions about too.

And our differences should be championed and supported ☺

Okay. To be fair the original is a bit blurry close up, too.

The VMP has darker, less defined hair and features. Color is nice overall. Back is nearly identical. VMP is glossy and has a hint of sparkle.

Sounded great, just finished a full spin. Now spinning my mono original, which has a fair amount of quiet static in the grooves. The new one is dead quiet.

Phantogram’s “Eyelid Movies” was released in Feb 2010, unless I am reading wrong...

It depends on how cute he wants to be about it - the album was initially released/sold in the UK (only on CD) in 2009 & Barsuk/Ghostly followed with the US release a few months later.

That's even presuming it's a record on their radar.

That's fair. Eyelid Movies seems like an odd Essentials choice, and I guess the only thing that makes me think it could still be that is that Phantogram was one of the bands in the recent season of Hi Fives.

I still don't think it's them, however.

It's probably not, but I also don't think any of our guesses would be a good Essentials release. I liked a number of them when they came out, and wouldn't mind a good pressing of some of them, but I'd be hard-pressed to say that a large number of people should own it. We know they're pressing somewhere between 30-45k for each of these, and that's just way too much for any of the guesses I've seen.

Seems a few people have received Aretha already. I got a shipping notification today for Bon Iver, but not for my December box, which I found odd because why would they ship BI separately if it wasn't delayed or anything like that? This makes me wonder whether they are holding my Dec box bc either Run DMC or BB King are delayed (although if that was the case, why wouldn't they send Aretha with BI?) I'm just speculating here, but...has anyone received (or gotten a shipping notification for) Raising Hell or Lucille yet?

That's fair. I would argue that Bat For Lashes is something that would fit this perfectly, but that's my own subjective spin on that album. It's aged as good or better than most other "big" indie albums from that year. It also has yet to receive an official US pressing, and the asking price on Discogs for the original press is high.

Also has the benefit of not being overplayed for most people, I imagine. I think it would be a perfect fit for Essentials and would be something I definitely would get. A lot of similar parallels for the Feist album too (second album, long out of print and expensive, somewhat overlooked album).

I've got all 3 coming, and no shipping notification yet. Still showing up as unfulfilled. Nothing on Informed Delivery either, which is usually my first sign.

On reddit and instagram I see people posting about receiving Aretha but so far nothing about Classics or RHH. My spidey sense is tingling. I feel a delay coming on.
