Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

And lol @ the anorak as an enticement.

HA! First off, I didn't even see that and it's hilarious. Even now, they're trying to unload the anoraks and Woodstock boxes, while being acutely aware that the beanies they dropped only yesterday aren't going anywhere.

You accidentally typed "Mos Def" instead of MObb Deep though.

Also, mine showed up and I got 4 copies instead of 2, so... squared. If I had 25, I'd be dealing with another beast altogether. I also know how to ship a fucking record without it being damaged, so I know it will get back to them.

Hmm...

I guess we'll see what they have as far as test pressing requests and go from there

Oooops! The other MD hip hop artist. Apologies to both - no disrespect meant.

I really hope you win that Anorak. Please please please please please let Dead C win that bougey name sounding jacket!!!

Dammit.

Don't you think they put that Woodstock box a little high on the list? The ONLY things worth winning are the turntable, store credit, and a free yearly membership (kind of). The free $35 isn't even enough to buy half the records

They are nice enough offers. Except that the yearly membership and store credits are ways to get their hooks in you and not let you go. And yes, that Woodstock is a little high. It is overpriced as is.

Did they offer to pay for the shipping back to them? I might have missed that part. Because shipping 25 - heck even 20 - records back would be quite pricey. And I'd be highly displeased if I went through that trouble (during the post offices busiest season), paid that much to ship and got a gosh darn beanie.

Just reading through the series of fulfillment issues that VMP members have had over the past few months (I've been busy living life and trying to not burn out) is shocking. I gave them a lot of leeway for a while but I've been limiting my purchases from them unless it's a big ticket item that I must have (like that new Ray Charles reissue) because of horror stories like these. Fuck.

Here's what they sent. And the part about shipping them back in the same box that they came in should be concerning to everyone involved

Of course, shipping is on us. Here is how it works:

  • Respond to this email confirming the extra records you received and how many, which we will confirm by matching to our fulfillment records.
  • Print the shipping label, which I will reply to you with, and package up the extra records into an appropriate box (the box the records came in, if you still have it, will work well).
  • Send the package back to our warehouse via Fedex or USPS (don't forget to send a picture).
  • Receive Test Pressings and store credit
  • Win prizes

So - the first bullet point. Why how many? Are they saying if you don't send back all of the extras they sent you that are now yours, they will know because they have fulfillment records (which, btw, are we to believe are at all accurate?) and there will be repurcussions?

I can only imagine the shit show this is going to become. They are being shipped back to their warehouse? They've previously stated multiple times that they don't want members to send back warped, damaged albums because they are not set up to handle incoming packages like that. So, we're to believe that they'll be able to handle hundreds of MD albums coming into a warehouse? And who is overseeing this endeavor of opening these returned albums, making sure they are still sealed and in good condition and then sending them back out? Saddle Creek?

I just exhausted myself thinking of so many things that can go wrong with this. Best of luck to all involved!!!!

It might be seen as a dick move but I wonder if they are negotiable? It’s nice that they are offering a raffle but it’d be nicer still to just get the opportunity to select a item off the list of “prizes”. Like I don’t want a chance to win a turntable, I want a turntable. And whatever the cost is for the TT it’s probably still a better deal for VMP than going back for a repress (though, I think it’s foolhardy for VMP, they should just to go back to press).

Honestly, I really do think that most people in the vinyl community either have no interest in flipping, and/or no knowledge of how to.

Those same people, often, have no idea how to ship, which is what concerns me.

Also, of all the conspiracies I’ve seen here, “VMP has a gang of paid staffers who they instruct to downvote Reddit comments” is by far the craziest one. Maybe people downvote you because you call everyone with a different opinion a stan, bootlicker, or undercover employee?

I don't really agree with this. They definitely have paid staffers (storfers) on there hyping people up and smugly responding to/deflecting any legitimate concern. I've seen endless comments like, "Hey. I love VMP and really appreciate you coming on here to fill us in. Not complaining, but wondering if there's any updates on the __ you said was coming I still haven't gotten mine or heard anything. THanks!"

Get downvoted to shit. Until about a week ago, any post asking a question got downvoted to shit

The alternative is, they go get more copies printed to fill the orders and probably issue an apology credit to anyone that would have to wait on a repress. That is what any normal label or retailer would do.

BINGO! This isn't a situation of more time, but more money. It could take "up to 12 weeks" for the repressing? How long is it going to take to get everyone to ship these back over the holidays, for them to inspect them, and then reship them?

I also noticed VMP is supposedly doing the raffle on Dec 13th. With 25 prizes up for grabs, I think that means at least 25 people were contacted for this, but probably closer to 100. Do we really think VMP is going to ship, receive, unpack, inspect, inventory and organize a raffle in 8 business days? A portion of that time is going to be lost in shipping alone. What if you don't check your email until Monday? Might as well not even bother.

HUGE point

Note this: Additionally, you will receive a $35 store credit, and for every record you return in good condition we will add 1 ticket to a raffle.

This phrasing is important. You get $35 in credit. And a entry for each record you return in good condition. So return 20 records you don't get $35 x 20 as some are thinking. You get $35 + 20 draw entries. That's if they are deemed in good condition.
