Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

Eyedea & Abilities - E&A?

Only been re-pressed once as a picture disc that I see as part of RSD awhile ago. They've worked with Rhymesayers before.

Upon first perusal, I would love to see cLOUDDEAD or Beans. [Saw Beans open for Tortoise that year, stellar performance both with beats or a cappella!]

...But then again, I've noticed that VMP will sometimes do an exclusive and then make them an AOTM when/if it does really well.
If that's the pattern, then it's Mobb Deep.

not even one of their better albums

Ruling out duplicates and such for 2004... it was a pretty weak year.

My possible commercial standouts are Jadakiss - Kiss of Death, Mos Def - The New Danger, Talib Kweli - The Beautiful Struggle, or Cam'ron - Purple Haze. Dark horse and guilty pleasure being Lloyd Banks - The Hunger for More. Also a long shot could be N.E.R.D - Fly or Die.

Based on nothing but a hunch, I'd say the front runner is Cam'ron.

It better not be Cam’ron’s Purple Haze! I purchased that album last year for RSD! Colour variant looks and sounds great! I don’t have Masta Ace’s Long Hot summer, but I’ve always been eyeing the HHV exclusive pressing of it! So I hope it isn’t Masta Ace either. I have the HHV pressing of Masta Ace’s Disposable Arts and it sounds great! 👍

We all know it won’t be Kanye West’s The College Dropout, even though I would LOVEEEEE to get a high quality pressing of that amazing album! 🙏

So these are the hip-hop albums from 2004 I’m hoping to see:

The Foreign Exchange - Connected (yes, this classic album recently got reissued, but I’d love to see a really nice colour variant of it!).

Murs & 9th Wonder - Murs 3:16- The 9th Edition (9th Wonder’s production on this record is incredible!)

The Streets - A Grand Don’t Come For Free (I easily prefer The Streets Original Pirate Material more, and the pressing I have sounds really good too. I’ve never been huge on this album but I feel like I need to give it another shot. And i’d love to give it a shot on vinyl!)

I’m really excited for some more clues!!! 🙇‍♂️🙋‍♂️

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I really hope it isn’t Cam’ron! Let’s just hope VMP didn’t want to do it because of the RSD limited release!

I’d actually love it if it was Mos Def’s The New Danger! The track “The Panties” is such a mysterious, sedative, sexy slow jam! I love how sexy that song is!!! 😈

But most of the production just feels outdated on that Mos Def record.....😔🙅‍♂️

Exactly why it will be it.

Cam'ron's Purple Haze pressed at GZ with no new mastering and no extras, pressed on the same plates. Purple and white splatter vinyl. Exclusive stencil included.

$29 dollars, please.

::Me scrolling through the 2004 list:

I have most of the albums I like on here, but... That Cee-Lo Green album is so fucking good. Same with Dizzee. And Murs. Oh man, The Streets too. Also, that Beastie Boys album is one of my favorites by then but I don't think they'd do that. I'd shit if they did. Venomous Villain?!?! Just saw 213 - The Hard Way on there. That one is pretty hard to get on wax and is the only 213 album that Snoop, Nate and Warren G put out.

Good chance it might actually happen! And if it does, then I’ll only be getting the Essentials and Classics ROTM’s! 💁‍♂️

I mean, with The Roots’ How I Got Over, I had the standard black pressing and I think the VMP edition sounds slightly better and the pinwheel variant looks outstanding! The jacket as well is amazing in my opinion!

The VMP pressing Method Man’s Tical also looks and sounds really good! I love how loud that pressing is and the sound quality is great on that record!

I haven’t gotten my VMP pressing of Slowthai yet, but it was pressed at QRP and apparently it sounds great!

But, we already have a coloured variant for Purple Haze and it sounds better than the standard pressing for The Roots’ How I Got Over for example! So, I really hope VMP don’t choose Cam’ron!

VMP need to step their game up with the R&HH track. If it’s Cam’ron’s Purple Haze, it will further confirm that little effort is put into the R&HH ROTM track, and it will also further confirm that it’s the weakest ROTM track!

It won’t be Cee-Lo, because of the insensitive comments towards rape he made. There was a bit of controversy when Goodie MOB’s “Soul Food” was the R&HH, because people were pointing out Cee-Lo’s distasteful social media posts......

That particular mos def album was awful back then & even worse now imo

Cam'ron Purple Haze is a fantastic album but I've got that purple OG copy I definitely dont want it to be this.

Wishful thinking but I would love
Dizzee Rascal - Boy In Da Corner yellow/white splatter or split variant
With Dizzee Rascal - Showtime Sclusie both albums released in US in 04. Dizzee & Wiley the original Grime kingpins
