I'm off to work and today I'm having two long, useless, boring AF meetings that I can't escape from.
If by any chance VMP today drops When the Pawn, can somebody buy one for me? I don't think it's going to happen but just in case. If I miss When The Pawn for a stupid meeting about catalogs, this will happen:

I think you're going to have to excuse yourself to go to the restroom. This shit is stupid. At one point we had a bit of info that led us to believe there would only be 1500 copies. Later we got a bit of info that it wasn't going to be that limited. Will VMP have the only release? Will we have to buy now with a delivery date of April? Will it be delayed? Will The Idler Wheel also be announced today?

I think the bigger problem would be if it doesn't go live at 12 noon EST.
As I stated yesterday, I hit refresh for 20 minutes and NOTHING... yet an hour later, three things were there.
How long can you stay in the bathroom before they go looking for you or send paramedics?

I don't know a lot about computer system migrations or what all is involved with this whole store move, but seriously WTF are they using for this migration? I feel like actual migrations in nature are happening faster. Are they using an old DSL modem sending the account info line by line? Maybe manually entering it via interns? Possibly an old 256MB USB thumb drive?

It's moving account profiles across a network. It seems crazy that this took more than 24 hours. But maybe it's all much more complicated than I realize. Someone educate me.

So I tracked our annual flock of geese (UK) and after a stop over in Iceland to "fatten up" they arrived in Canada last night.
I was gonna point out that during this journey VMP migration had reached 45%..... but Ive had a better idea and have just added a suggestion for VMP future profits boost.
Yeah I got them a new courier service !

it's probably more related to the differences in the data structures between the two systems. moving and converting data between two systems that probably have different database types and structures can be incredibly difficult and you're almost never going to do it right on the first shot. depending on the systems, they may even need to be doing this by manual entry.

of all the shady shit VMP has done, it's pretty easy for me to be forgiving if they're having a tough time moving systems. it's always rough...

Agree. As someone who is doing this for my job right now, I completely understand the headaches and trial & error they're going through.

What I don't get is why wouldn't they just do it in parallel and lock the new store. Work out all of the issues that are immediately apparent and then make the swap. I don't see why they would stop using the old store before that happened.

Ok, well that makes me have a very very very small amount of sympathy. Now riddle me this if you will - is this something they could have resolved before taking the store live, or is this just kind of how it is? Secondly, does allowing purchases and changes to active accounts further complicate things? I'd imagine they need to update both systems at the same time until things are all on one system?

yes, they completely half-assed that part of it. traditionally the cutover would involve bringing both systems down until the new one is ready to go-live but they seem to be a little more "fly by the seat of their pants" than the projects I work on...

Or why they didn't save up so many highly anticipated "exclusives" to have them drop precisely while they're in the middle of the migration?

It's like they're trying to make it as difficult for themselves and frustrating for their customers as possible.

My thoughts too - especially if what i read is correct and some found stock drops in and disappears - vinyl people may have had on their wishlist for a long time but couldn't buy given accounts have not migrated yet. Thats really shitty IMHO, full on we don't give a shit thinking. They didn't have to drop that found stock into a shitshow.
