YEAR END MEGALIST 2022!!!!

Maybe I messed up ... the album came out in 2021, but the vinyl was released in Jan 2022. Does that count?
Good catch, thank you for editing.
The release date that is considered is when the music first becomes readily available on streaming or digital means. Since that Mannequin Pussy album was available to listen last year, it would not be valid for points on the megalist. I guess all this to say, vinyl/CD/cassette/8track should not be terms considered in this thread.

Julianna Riolino - All Blue 20 points
Annie Blackman - All of It 20 points *
Alex G - God Save the Animals 15 points
Florist - Florist 15 points
Aimee Mann - Queens of the Summer Hotel 10 points
Sadurn - Radiator 10 points
Regina Spektor - Home, Before and After 5 points
Sharon Van Etten - We've Been Going About this All Wrong 5 points

*The Annie Blackman is something I stumbled upon through Bandcamp and oddly doesn't even have a discogs entry. Doesn't have a vinyl release, just a CD and download option. It's an album that really has had a hold on me, right up there with the Riolino which is fantastic in a somewhat more developed way. Here's a link to the Blackman for anyone who might want to check it out:

Absolutely love that Aimee Mann is on this list, but that was released last year 😉

My AOTY List!
1. Beyonce - RENAISSANCE (20)
2. CMAT - If My Wife New Id Be Dead (20)
3. Djo - Decide (18)
4. Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyes, See Your Future (18)

CMAT was my unshakeable AOTY for half the year so I wanted to give her some extra shoutout! But Beyonce really ran away with the #1 spot and it is one of my favorite albums I got to give AOTY. Djo and Denzel were solid 3rd and 4th places. Besides them I really didn't fall in love with too many albums this year, for the most part I felt whelmed by most new releases and many albums flat out disappointed me. I don't even know which album id give my #5 spot (possibly Anitta). The rest of my points are going to albums based on the time i spent with them according to Last.fm

Anitta - Versions of Me (2)
Mitski - Laurel Hell (2)
Lizzo - Special (2)
Carly Rae Jepsen - The Lonliest Time (2)
Kendrick Lamar - Mr Morale & the Big Steppers (2)
Father John Misty - Chloe and the Next 20th Century (2)
PUP - The Unraveling of PUPTHEBAND (2)
Hatchie - Giving the World Away (2)
The Weeknd - Dawn FM (2)
Yard Act - The Overload (2)
Sudan Archives - Natural Brown Prom Queen (2)
Cheekface - Too Much To Ask (2)

@Rip_City
I agree with you about this year. I was very excited about a lot of albums from artists I’ve really liked in the past, but their releases felt very same-y. My reaction to a lot this year was … meh. The only album I have in my Tier One this year is Beyonce. Which is kinda funny for me because in the past, I’ve admired but not loved her work.

I was just thinking this. How can these lists be done days ago and SZA only dropped 10 hours ago?!

(Originally I was gonna make a joke about the new Sun Ra due next week, but this SZA ain't no joke!)
haha to be fair, I dont think my list will change. On first listen, I'm liking this album a lot so far but not sure i'd have enough time to absorb and figure out how much I like it in relation to everything else. Just like the YYYs album. I only started listening to it this month - It's fantastic but not sure I'd include it yet.

I feel like my album list is gonna be short and sweet for this year but here are some other stuff while I make it

Song of the Year
Denzel Curry - Walkin'

Honorable mentions
Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time (may have over taken Denzel if I had more time with it)
Florence and the Machine - My Love

Favorite Album Cover
Kendrick Lamar- Mr Morale and the Big Steppers

Favorite Concert

I forgot to come back to that 2nd Grade record, thanks for reminding me, it’s so good!

not going to actually give numbers because i have some basic answers (kendrick, beyonce, jockstrap, sudan archives, denzel curry) and i'd really have to relisten to all those albums to see which i like the most.. so how about i recommend a few albums that most people didn't listen to that i honestly think you should check out that were only really noticeable for RYM nerds

Vylet Pony - Can Opener's Notebook: Fish Whisperer
A hyperpop/indietronic concept album that is half My Little Pony fanfic and self-insert story about a neurodivergent person starting to make music and understand themself.. i know its a hard sell but it honestly can be very pretty and i mostly ignored the MLP elements and just enjoyed it as an album about someone trying to get past their issues

Ghais Gueverra - There Will Be No Super-Slave
a rapper i legit could call too radical for most people. full of hilarious punchlines and chopped samples rapping some real communist praxis

Ninos del Cerro - Suave pendiente
Chilean shoegaze mixing with neopsyche and dream pop.. their previous album lance was also pretty good.

Quadeca - I Didn't Mean to Haunt You
the best joji album ever made.. honestly does sound fantastic and if you are into the alt-pop sounds of someone like joji then its almost essential a listen

Backxwash - His Happiness Shall Come First Even Though We Are Suffering
Backxwash out with another horrorcore/industrial rap banger about her pain and past (also has Ghais Gueverra on it so he's back)

It's fun seeing the differences in lists. I have 25 on my list to your 28, and there isn't a single album we share on our lists. Shows how good of a year its been.
