This one may move about in my top 20 for this year. I originally had this in the top 10 but at the last minute swapped it with Our Native Daughters. I love Giddens though and this is fantastic so it may well creep up in the final reckoning.
This took 45 days to come from Colombia (in a pizza box no less!) so I've been looking forward to this for a long time. This is possibly my favourite release in Fruko's huge discography (for me the best Colombian musician). If anybody wants to check it out, the first track from this monster compilation is on El Violento, Salsa Na Ma. And what a cover - brandy in one hand, pistol in the other, a true tough guy (teso)...
Monte Luna - Drowners’ Wives. Their first album was something I found via the Metal thread, and this album is better than that. Not one for album of the year lists, but this would be up there.
Was restrained when I was in Melbourne, and only got a handful of things I can’t get here. Loved this band, and this album for years, but never had a physical copy til now. Sounds great. Think they also have a new album coming out pre-Christmas. Result.
