Muriel Grossmann - Reverence

Well, I got home last night after a brutal 19-hour day trip to an oil rig. But I couldn't go straight to bed as this had arrived. Her "Golden Rule" was my favourite of 2018, and as I'm now on my 3rd spin of this already there's every chance she could do it two years in a row. I just love her sax playing, but I feel what elevates this album is the improved playing from her bandmates, in particular the rhythm section.

I think I like this new one better than the first. Total package. Music, musicianship, sound quality, and the vinyl pressing all 1st rate.

The agutierrezb 2019 record collection challenge

So I've decided to embark on my own personal challenge, which consists of listening every record in my collection before the end of the year. My record collection is not that big -only ~250-, but I still feel like there are a bunch of records I don't give enough attention to, while still adding more titles to my shelves.

For this reason I've set a couple of rules in order to play every record at least once before December 31st: I'll play at least one record a day, going from front to back in the way I have them sorted in my shelf. I can play a different record (i.e. Not the next one in alphabetical order) if I feel like listening to something else in any given moment, but at least one of the records I spin in the day has to be the LP in turn.

I didn't take pictures for the first two days, but I'll try to document the process from here on, so I'll be posting daily on this thread. Wish me luck!
#116: Herbie Hancock - Flood

This live album is fantastic, and one of my favorite grabs from this year. The Headhunters are on top form here, displaying so much groove, intricate interplay and inventiveness. I obviously like their studio albums, but this live recording is more adventurous and hard hitting than those. There are so many current musicians who owe their take on jazz to this group, and I don't blame them, their music is so fun and exciting, yet accesible, that it makes me want to pick up a bass and play too.
