What's Spinning

My collection #1091-1092

Antoine Dougbé
Rocket Juice & The Moon

One of the greatest (and rarest) Poly-Rythmos - all of Dougbé's records with them are amazing, but this might just be best of all. He's a bit of a mysterious figure but perfected his own rhythm, cavacha, which takes in rumba and Vodoun beats from Benin. Plus, fabulous funk from Tony Allen and Flea (not really sure Damon Albarn brings as much to this - especially as whenever his keyboard/bleeps come on my better half screams to turn it off!)

Tubby Hayes Quartet - Tubby's Groove (Tempo Records, 1960 First Mono Pressing)

Last night I made a deal with an online seller for a load of British goodies, including 2 rare Tubby Hayes albums, a new Tubby Hayes release ('recently discovered session'), a Tubby Hayes Reel to Reel, an incredibly rare British jazz album, and a collection of posters/flyers from the 1950's. Really excited to get them, its going to be like Christmas, so in the meantime I will spin this fantastic album by Hayes!

My collection #1093-1094

Björk - Post
Mulatu Astatke & The Heliocentrics - Inspiration Information

Brilliance of Björk, and a really fabulous record that is something more than just another Ethiopian/Mulatu album mixing more modern sounds and beats with his music.
