Another from Henry, this time with another regular collaborator, Albert Ayler. This one’s been back and forth between its original Spirits title and Witches & Devils so many times. This was a nice value, nice sounding early ‘70s UK reissue. Wouldn’t surprise me if this pops up as an RSD reissue in the future.

So I've decided to embark on my own personal challenge, which consists of listening every record in my collection before the end of the year. My record collection is not that big -only ~250-, but I still feel like there are a bunch of records I don't give enough attention to, while still adding more titles to my shelves.

For this reason I've set a couple of rules in order to play every record at least once before December 31st: I'll play at least one record a day, going from front to back in the way I have them sorted in my shelf. I can play a different record (i.e. Not the next one in alphabetical order) if I feel like listening to something else in any given moment, but at least one of the records I spin in the day has to be the LP in turn.

I didn't take pictures for the first two days, but I'll try to document the process from here on, so I'll be posting daily on this thread. Wish me luck!

Elvis apparently stated that Orbison has the greatest voice of all time. Random fact but I can certainly see where hes coming from, super unique!

Probably my favourite Doors album, and sounding very nice on this German first pressing.

One of my favourite from Hawes. I always feel he's massively underrated as a musician. Some superb sessions were put out with him as lead, and this is one of them!

I love Albert’s introduction on this album. He’s so softly spoken, it’s not how I imagined him to sound at all. Great set recorded in Copenhagen with European backing.

Last time I was in the magnificent Superfly Records in Paris, they recommended I check out this wonderful funk album from Cote d'Ivoire. Super glad I did. Can't wait to get back there when this all goes back to normal...

Marion Brown Quartet - La Placita: Live in Willisau (Timeless Muse, TI 314, 1979)



Makaya’s dad, Steve McCraven is the drummer on this and it appears the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. He really belts out a cracking solo towards the end of this first track.

I went on a Stephen McCraven rabbit hole the other month. Even ended up chatting to the free-jazz bassist Joe Fonda and he contacted some of his friends to see if anyone had a vinyl copy of 'Up From The Sky' which McCraven appears on. I will have to track down that Marion Brown now!

One of my favourite modern pickups from last year, great music throughout! I saw that he is playing at the Barbican later on in the year (well, he was supposed to be) and I was really tempted to get tickets, they're just so damn pricey!
