I think that new HBO show you're referring to is The Deuce. Which also has Black Thought.. and you didn't even know he was in it. QED.

I don’t care. I’m going to just be savage.I think that new HBO show you're referring to is The Deuce. Which also has Black Thought.. and you didn't even know he was in it. QED.

This is my observation.
To me, Believer101’s music taste is very lower-class Australian-like, but he just knows much more. He won’t ever be into Milo, Shabazz Palaces, Quelle Chris or even Bahamadia or Smif-N-Wessun. He’s more the Snoop Dogg, Lil’ Kim, NaS, Hopsin, Tyga kind that also does enjoy other great rappers like JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown.
But let me tell you one thing. He’s not interested in A Tribe Called Quest, Freestyle Fellowship, US3, Digable Planets etc. he isn’t a jazz rap person. He wouldn’t even like D’Angelo or Erykah Badu etc. That’s why this guy doesn’t care about The Roots because they are moreso in that category.
I couldn’t care what Believer101 says in this debate. His contribution is nothing in this debate.
Omg, I feel so mean.....but I can’t help that I’m so competitive and always want to win!
I am listening to your points @Clint Howard bit I honestly genuinely think The Roots are much more popular than Method Man. And I think better known actually. The Roots became really big with Things Fall Apart and Questlove is The Roots’ most popular member.
So much people like that neo-soul/jazz. Look at @Selaws. He’s the perfect example. He loves The Roots. Imagine how many jazz/neo-soul people would love The Roots but they wouldn’t care/forgot about Method Man.
One thing's for sure, Wu albums are going to get even more high profile after this Hulu show drops in two months. Better grab all those early albums before they spike in price and demand like the Queen and Elton John used records have recently.
Personally not doing so hot on this front... I saw an OG copy of Tical for 40€ in Amsterdam, but it was closer to VG with a lot of surface scuffs. Maybe one day!
Im so keen for that to drop. Its not far off I dont think! I hope they do it justice.
Same! I think a TV miniseries is a better format than a biopic so they don't have to resort to lazy retellings and compressed narratives like many biopics. For every Walk the Line and Straight Outta Compton there seem to be twenty bad music films haha. I think a lot of historically rooted stuff is going to move to TV after the critical success of stuff like When They See Us or just the massive rating for shows like The Crown or American Crime Story. At this point I wish the rock biopic resurgence would pivot to TV as well.
B) THEN EXPLAIN WHY METHOD MAN DOESNT EVEN HAVE 500k LIKES ON HIS FACEBOOK PAGE WHEREAS THE ROOTS HAVE 1.5M LIKES???
It's sad, because I feel like the only album I'd keep is MBDTFSeems like we can't really justify anything as modern classic aside from the one it specifically can't be (MBDTF)
not on def jamDrake Thank Me Later? Debut album, it would appeal to the casual hip-hop fans that the RHH sub caters to as well as marketing to the masses, never had an official vinyl release according to discogs?
Snap, forgot about that clue. Apologies!not on def jam i dont think
^you right lol I should have just stayed on the sidelines for this one
I'll help to change the topic too: "it was written" repress went up on get on down this morning
To be totally fair, I don’t think MBDTF will ever sound good. Everything is so overblown and dense that it would be near impossible to have a nice, dynamic pressing. I also must have gotten a good vinyl copy because mine sounds quite good all things considered. I also haven’t really listened to it on vinyl in years... I should remedy that.Impossible to find any consensus as "modern classic" is an oxymoron. Sure something can be relevant and influential on the current scene but it's not really a "classic" till it's baked into the DNA of the genre. I think people are drifting to MBDTF as a "classic" because now at almost a decade it is firmly in the past, yet still quite good.
I would like a nicer vinyl copy of this as the Sterling / URP copy sucks, but the CD works just fine. I'd like to find one of the GZ pressed / mastered copies out there, as I preferred their take on Late Registration to the earlier pressings but all I see is the URP / TML reissue for MBDTF.
