Look, I’m not going to lie. There was a short time that I was obsessed with calling Adam out for not embracing his outer baldness. I was even banned from their FB page for a short time for doing that. I wasn’t mean about it and it’s a badge that I hold close to my heart.
For the record, I loved their first 3 albums.

Yeah, I first came across Hyden when he wrote the Whatever Happened to Alternative Nation? series for AV Club. And then followed him to Grantland and now UpRoxx and his books. I definitely enjoy the everyman/suburban dad qualities of his music writing and music taste. Not as much as his writing, but I also enjoy his Celebration Rock podcast too. And apparently he just did a podcast about Woodstock 99 for Luminary?

His book about the classic rock era was fantastic, especially the chapters about Phish and the Styx/Boston/REO Speedwagon corporate rock.

August and everything after is an awesome record, it's not the mainstream hits that make it that way either for me, this album gets exceptionally better after the first 3 tracks. Jmo, it's not alt rock, though.
