Vinyl Me Pauly (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Let the record show that @Tyr always knew Sev was the only good one of the bunch, and they did him dirty early on. Either way, the rest got their comeuppance I guess.
He really was the best. I had the chance to get drinks with Sev on a couple of occasions and he is a delightful person. Wherever he is, I hope he’s doing well.

Their social media outreach and the forums/discord built a great community that they struggled to manage. Paulie and Storf did a great job keeping the dedicated base of customers informed and involved.

But I imagine it was always hard to build relationships on these platforms for vmp. Like, you have to be responsible for what people post on those platforms. when your company makes mistakes, it’s hard for employees and subscribers to not take it personally.
Well, this is true about taking it personally. Perhaps some of us (possibly none of us?) who are here were active on the Blue Note Records Board circa the late 90s and early 00s. There were years of community, friendships, research and just great information and one day, POOF! Poor Tom Evered totally got screwed. The endless slams of Norah and complaints about Ron McMaster's work did that Board in around 2002 and it instilled a belief in me that that there is no way that a commercial stakeholder could ever manage to keep a board together when inevitably, passionate people are going to call shit out when it's not right. Frankly, I was not surprised when VMP did it because it was deja vu. That being said, with the only other alternative being Hoffman, I am so greatful to the folks in this community who keep this alive. I mean, there was only Hoffman until this and what a godsend this place is.

Neither was I. I was a moderator on those forums and it was a wonder to watch the community flourish. But it was always a matter of time in my mind.

I remember the BN board, it was a cool place. I was only on the VMP board a few months before it got nuked, but felt it coming because they were thin-skinned about criticism up until the end and there was plenty of legit concerns to go around. I do think some of it was "tough love" to help them improve and flourish, some of it was not.
Commercial stakeholders can get such valuable feedback if they have the patience to build a good community relationship, moderate properly and accept that there's often at least one unsatisfiable critic in every crowd.

My buddy got an email from Nick Alt aka dude from VNYL as they are apparently thinking of acquiring the VMP assets…
Who woulda thought that VNYL would be the last one standing after all of this. They came out the gate as something close to fraud (“curating” BS from the local dollar bins and remainder excess copies). In the business world, the shit really does rise to the top don’t it?
