Day 21 - girls

Betti Betti & Poly-Rythmo

The one record I have of Poly-Rythmo's with a female singer and it's an absolute cracker. I don't know much about Betti Betti, except she's Cameroonian. But she is perfect on top of these Soulful, funky songs. One of Poly-Rythmo's very best, and perfect birthday fare for me today to celebrate feeling younger than I am.

Day 20 - outta this world

Antonio Sanches - Buli Povo

@D Jilla played this yesterday but this feels outer space to me too. Analog Africa entitled their compilation from Cabo Verde as "Space Echo" featuring one of Buli Povo's songs as the lead track. This album, full of mad synths and amazing rhythms, is definitely in my African top 10. I tried to track down an OG through a friendly air hostess but they were crazy expensive. Stratospheric music.

I love this album, I believe it was a record store day pick up? It was one that I picked up blind and was totally blown away by it!

Day 21: Girls Run The World

I have tried to make a concerted effort to increase the amount of female singers/bands that I own. Early on in my listening/collecting, I just couldn't get into most of them. Either what they were singing about...or something just didn't connect with me. 20+ years on, I think I've changed enough to be able to give them some attention. (still can't get into Janis, tho...I've tried)

Stevie Nicks ‎– Bella Donna
Modern Records ‎– MR 38-139, 1981

Cut by Stephen Marcussen at Precision Lacquer

I'll do my best to keep this theme going in the spinnin' thread today, too.

Just got home from work and it's time to play a little catch up.

Day 18: Spill the Wine

John Lee Hooker - It Serve You Right To Suffer

Blues and bourbon are America's two greatest inventions and it just so happens that they go together perfectly. Paired with some Four Roses Single Barrel.

Day 20 - Outta This World

The Curtis Counce Quintet ‎– Exploring The Future (Dootone Records, 1970 2nd pressing)

Well this is fortunate as the music is out of this world and so is the cover! This was actually Counce's last album before his death, and its a superb one for sure. Weirdly there's been very few reissues of this album. The first pressing is crazily rare and while this one is easier to find, its still an elusive one.

Day 21 - Girls Run The World

Julien Baker ‎– Sprained Ankle (6131 Record, 2018 pressing on Orange vinyl)

Theres sooooo many choices for this one but I went with this album as its one that I could never become tired with. Shes got such an amazing voice and the whole album is incredibly raw. Great stuff throughout!
