This is sort of the beginning of britpop in a lot of ways. I just adore this album. Lee Mavers was a crazy junkie musical genius who was never happy with anything he recorded. I think this is the 3rd or 4th attempt to record the album that the record company ended up releasing against his wishes and that he’s since disowned. He’s never really released anything since and there was a running joke in the indie scene at one stage that he was still in a bunker somewhere endless re-recording these songs to try and achieve the perfection he hears in his head.

I you’d have to have been hiding under a rock not to have. It’s kinda reached ubiquity without the majority of people having a clue who made it. It’s endlessly used on tv and in films. Not bad for a song about heroin.
