The Official Needles and Grooves 1001 Album Generator Project (aka Preachin’ about the Preachers if today’s selection sucks)

Unfamiliar, but just started listening and this is awesome.

This is sort of the beginning of britpop in a lot of ways. I just adore this album. Lee Mavers was a crazy junkie musical genius who was never happy with anything he recorded. I think this is the 3rd or 4th attempt to record the album that the record company ended up releasing against his wishes and that he’s since disowned. He’s never really released anything since and there was a running joke in the indie scene at one stage that he was still in a bunker somewhere endless re-recording these songs to try and achieve the perfection he hears in his head.

There was a running joke in the mid 90s NME that the next MBV album was going to be delayed because Kevin Shields was helping Lee finish off the next La’s album
