Pre-Order Thread

I am still waiting for him to pick up the tempo. I have enjoyed well enough everything I have heard from him but I am usually losing interest a few songs in on every album. It’s all very same-y to me.

I have similar issues with Jason Isbell though so I understand it’s more of a “me” thing than an issue with anyone else. He’s a good songwriter and has a fine voice.

I always thought the cliche was you get older and get more into the mid-tempo acoustic-leaning singer-songwritery stuff, but I listened to a lot more of that kind of thing when I was in my early 20s than I do now in my early 40s. It's nice when it's on, but for whatever reason I don't find myself reaching for it or really seeking it out anymore.

Just how my white whale, Michelle Branch - The Spirit Room was sitting on the Cogs for sale for months at $1,600. It hasn't sold. No one is paying that much. I just checked again and the price has been lowered to around $1,000 and there are 3 copies up for sale now.

Looks like a copy hasn't sold in about 7 months now.
It was a double platinum album if I recall, so copies should be readily available (in theory of course) for no more than $40. $1600 is nuts.

It only ever got one pressing (well two variants) for the 20th anniversary and was only available on her official web store. It sold out quickly. It was a surprise announcement made on her Twitter and by the time I was aware of its existence it was too late. The resellers market has always been insane for this release, both black and colored.

I’m a huge Isbell fan but you’ve nailed my feelings on Zach.

Meh… I listened to it then. I listen to it now. 🤷‍♀️

Same, I was WAY more into lyrics in my 20s and teens than I am now. I can still appreciate a good turn of phrase but it am much more interested in vibes than I was then. It also coincides with me getting more into jazz and live Grateful Dead. Stuff, I didn’t have much patience for when I was younger.

Have you listened to either of the live album? I completely understand what you're saying bout Zach Bryan's albums but the live versions are a lot more energetic. A lot of his songs I was introduced to from All My Homies Hate Ticketmaster and I still find some of the recorded albums jarring because it's almost like a completely different song.

Funny, I was having this same exact Zach Bryan conversation with some friends this morning. I said he needed an editor, and my friend said he really just needs an accountant.

I get the legacy artists that are 70+ selling their publishing. For someone like Zach, it seems insane to me. Does he realize that he loses out now if someone covers his work or publishes the music?

But that is a gable. And he might need money now and doesn't want to call J.G. Wentworth
I don’t think it is though. There is a reason these places are buying the rights up left and right. The conventional wisdom, often employed by the labels, for generations is that publishing is where the money is at. It’s why the Colonel wouldn’t let Elvis record anything that they didn’t have the rights to. It’s just more of our modern day satisfaction now bullshit. He’d make money from publishing every time a song or album is licensed etc. now if VW uses his song in an ad, he gets nothing.
