I'm so behind that I'm embarrassed. Combined with this week's drops, my backlog sits at 39 releases.

And here I was kicking myself for going to bed exhausted last night having only listened to one of this week's new releases instead of my usual 3-6 🤣

I guess I'll just shut the heck up about that.
I'm also way behind in checking out new releases. I try to catch up the next 10 days or so, so I can get my Q1 ready in time.

Some recent albums I've enjoyed are

Methyl Ethel "Are you haunted?"

Hurray For the Riff Raff "LIFE ON EARTH"

and partly SASAMI "Squeeze"

In general (from what I've listened to so far) Q1/22 seems weaker to me than Q1 to Q3 last year. But maybe it's just because I'm so behind.

My favorites up to now are

Bonobo "Fragments"

Amber Mark "Three Dimensions Deep"

Black Country, New Road "Ants from up there"

Spoon "Lucifer on the sofa"

and

FKA Twigs "CAPRISONGS"

I think this year rips so far.

Go my physical copy of this album yesterday. I am in love with it. I can't wait for The Weather Station (this album is a companion to one I thought was one of the best from 2021), Nulifer Yanya, and GBV. I'm also interested in that Charlotte Adigery project that @bgod posted.

I mentioned it on my status, but I thought I'd share it here too: 2 of my most anticipated albums of the year are out today!

Stromae - Multitude
You may know him for his hit single "Alors on dance" from a while ago, but this guy is much more than what meets the eye. His last album "Racine Carrée" was IMO ahead of its time with its embrace of sounds from multiple cultures, all woven into a modern and exciting production. On top of all, and, far from what the festive sound of his music may suggest, his lyrics touch on very serious subjects.

Melissa Aldana - 12 Stars
The chilean saxophonist debuts on Blue Note records, with an album that she wrote during lockdown right after her breakup from a long relationship. She is a great soloist, but her writing is what has always set her apart for me. If her previous records are any indication of what her new tunes may sound like, 12 stars will feel right at home in the same label that published the likes of Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock.

Didn't see this one on any other lists, so here's a shoutout to the new album from El Ten Eleven - New Year's Eve. Another solid album from a band I only first heard of last year through a Twitch Streamer during a DJ set; it was love at first listen. I don't listen to many instrumental acts, but this duo's music grabbed me immediately and hasn't let go through a nearly 20 year run of consistently good albums that I've been recently going through.
