Yeah pretty apt comparison! Their album they put out 2 years ago is more of the same if you dig this sound.Kinda sounds like Tennis

The Idrissa Soumaoro is really fantastic - they don't seem to be pushing this but it features Amadou and Mariam (I think it's their first recording). I have another reissue so won't be getting this one but highly recommend it.Radar List for 5.13.22

Just listening to Belle and Sebastian and really enjoying the new album, think this will rank high in my Q2. Also Sharon Van Etten will, very good new album.Belle and Sebastian is decent. I think they stopped being so "cute" and neat in their sound after Write About Love. Nothing wrong with that but they excelled at being twee, now they're just a good band. I'd say 6/10 right now with potential to grow.
Sharon Van Etten's new one will need more listens. Her voice on this one is much more amalgamated and will require a few more listens for it to unfold. I didn't hear any standout tracks from the start but I wonder if her decision to not release singles before release is why.
I fully agree, a top contender for AOTY for me. Whole album was just full of "Oh wow!" moments. I still can't get over Gerard Way's screaming on Ronin.Check out the album from Ibaraki. It was tier for me from Friday. Post in thread 'Best Music of 2022!' https://www.needlesandgrooves.com/threads/best-music--of-2022.1843/post-581751
This is a fascinating release in every respect:
Lily Henley — Hearth Music
When singer, fiddler, songwriter, and composer Lily Henley set out to make an album of Sephardic Jewish ballads set to new melodies, she was looking for her own way to interpret a tradition that she saw as critically endangered.www.hearthmusic.com

“Big malaise energy” is my new favorite oxymoronThis Sasha Alex Sloan album has a big malaise energy and I'm way into that. I'm here for nihilist pop albums!!
