Minneapolis/St. Paul

We aren’t wealthy by any means but we do have a little bit of funds to play with. We were approved for $400,000 but aren’t looking to spend that much. I’ve thought about looking in St Paul and even with how easy I know it is, my fiancé doesn’t want to cross the river. She’s very particular and of course I have to please her 🙄

If it were up to me we would definitely be further out in a suburb with more land. Hell, I was even looking at stuff on the wisco border but she’s not down with that at all. One thing I am looking forward to being closer to the city is the ability to ride my bike. That’s one thing I absolutely loved in colorado but can’t do at all here in Louisiana. Not only for lack of bike lanes and paths but also that it’s just too damn hot and humid.

These might be useful links for you. There are parks and trails all over the place that connect the lakes around the cities. Outdoor recreation is a big thing here so you'll have no shortage of opportunities. The trail and bike networks are expanding getting better connected. Again, weirdly, they don't connect super well between Minneapolis and Saint Paul. In the winter, there's lots of cross-country skiing and snow shoeing (don't worry you'll get it :ROFLMAO:). Ice-fishing is a thing.

Also, expect to be bidding 15 - 25k above asking and maybe (probably) waiving contingencies. The housing market is that competitive.

Edit: The garage thing is weird. Most of them are detached in the cities, which seems to have something to do with the age of the homes but you're probably more likely to find one out where you're looking. Be aware of any moisture issues in the basement, look out for homes where they just painted the basement.

If anyone from the Minneapolis area would be willing to do a local pickup (at Mill City Sound) and ship to me in Charlotte, NC I would be eternally grateful. They've got a relatively cheap copy of a record I've been hunting for a long time but they don't ship :(

Please add "Rock, Paper, Scissors" Record Shop to your list. 2403 Lyndale Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55405

I’m in Minny for the week, probably gonna check out some record stores tomorrow! Anyone gonna be downtown / near the area? I’ll be near Washington Ave and 2nd.

sadly, no. but you should head a few blocks up the street to bunkers one night if you're looking for something to do, especially if you're here sunday night.

This seems like a vey friendly group, and I joined just because this thread hooked me! I’m a transplant from the East coast, and after being here since 2005, I could not agree more about Minnesota “nice”. I often joke that I’m not a real Minnesotan, so if I invite you over I really mean it!

If you have a meet up, I will try to be there, or I am happy to host!

It seems I forgot about this thread (or realt N&G in general) once I got here.....ooooffffff

We have a record club here that was formed on FB that meets monthly, so if anyone is interested please reach out and we can link up. We usually meet on a Sunday once a month for about 5 hours. Each person brings a few records to share and we spin one side of as many as we can get through.

We also do a monthly "essential" record listen. This month will be Ziggy Stardust. The next one is this Sunday the 25th (i know, short notice) but don't fret, there will be one next month as well.

I lived in Minneapolis for most of the 1990s and moved to NYC in 2000. I used to visit Cheapos in Uptown every weekend and stock up on used CD's. There also used to be a small record store on the Nicollet Mall (I think it was called Let It Be Records) that had the best recommendations.

Now my daughter is a freshman at Macalester College and I finally get to come back to the Twin Cities every few months. It has changed a lot, but I still hold out hope that I can stumble across a vinyl copy of Billy's Live Bait by the Gear Daddies at some local shop. If anyone has any recommendations for my next visit I'd love to hear them!

They have stopped Repairing and selling used audio equipment, but will do Phono cartridge replacements, belt replacement, adjust speed control with strobe, and all the other setup adjustments.

Waiting word back from SolSta Records if they're doing Repairs again. Their tech had left.

I don't know if you'll ever find a copy of Billy's Live Bait on vinyl, but the Gear Daddies are playing First Ave on May 4th.

Might just coincide with your next trip to Minnesota to visit your daughter!

Well look at that, Macalester's calendar year ends May 6 and someone is going to need a ride home. How convenient! 😃

Thanks for the heads up!
