I get hosting images puts a strain on the server and using the image proxy keeps the server safe from non-ssl url's...but there are add-ons that ignore https links from going to the proxy that could alleviate some of the load.


Most image hosting sites use https, like imageshack (what I use to link images), so they don't really need to be behind a proxy.

It's free, so not issues there. Just something to consider.
 
there are add ons and back-end image hosting options, we just haven't gotten that far yet. just ask to be patient for now, we're certainly hoping to get the image stuff to be as seamless as possible, and to get there sooner than later.

I'd like to also say that add ons like this cost money and there are several options to choose from so we aren't rushing into a decision.
